Mission Aerotow 2010 - Videos and Pictures

I decided to start a separate thread with videos and pictures from Mission so that all that have them can post here.

I'll start with a clip of Fred China's beautiful Karakan. Fred just goes to his stack of airplane boxes in his workshop and says, "Hmmm, I haven't flown that one for a while", and pulls out another beauty. The Karakan hasn't flown for about 7 years . It is 5m and weighs about 12 1/2 pounds, and has no airbrakes or other glide path control. Very narrow tip chord as you can see, but flies perfectly. Fred gave me a little time on the sticks, and it is a gem. As you can see, he hasn't lost his landing touch either!

Martin Pilko's DG-1000

Sanders Chai (Balsabozo) does the honours on the wing tip while Gene Cope tows. Martin uses the minimum patch of grass to land on!

RE the Ag Wagon:
After fiddling around with that miserable FTL 45 almost all afternoon
WE finally decided that it does NOT need the supplied metal gasket.
After carefully snugging it up and checking for piston strike/clearance
it had much better compression.
The day ended with 4 successful tows including Dave Cherokee.
After the last tow I had guided the bird to it's disassembly area and
let go the Rudder at which time the Tail wheel BROKE OFF !
Overnight Bob Poole made the repair - Thanks Bob !

Suffice it to say that the Aggy needs more hp ! several more !
We are currently entertaining Good Deal Offers of smaller twins ( gt80 et al )

Dave,

Please have Doug go to my web site ( www.balsabuddies.com ) for my e-mail
then write to me regarding the MP3 file type on all those Vids on the DVD's .
They worked last time but not this time ! :-(

Then we can also discuss CNC.

More Video

Video time....

Just so you don't all think that all we soar with are those fancy glass slippers, check this out:

Dead Sticks (0 min 46 sec)

And here's Martin's new Blanik L-13, which does a little better.....blustery day, but a smooth flier and a nice landing.

Blanik L 13 (1 min 31 sec)

And Doug Aldridge's Graupner Ventus A which he lets me fly sometimes, being towed by Don Bailey's Senior telemaster with a 1.20 4-stroke:

Sunday at Mission

You didn't miss anything....we flew until about 10:30 when the ceiling collapsed on us and the "Scotch Mist" became a drizzle. Had a couple of tows into the clouds, losing sight of tug and glider which led to some interesting sky-scanning and butt-clenching, but no harm in the end.

Just putting together some vid of your DG-600...

Sander's DG-600

Sanders Chai's beautiful DG-600. We were taking off and landing in crosswinds all day which made it a little more difficult for the bigger ships.

Looks like this was a nice event, great photos and videos. Always neat to see what's happening in the Pacific Northwest.

ps... Spotted the Radian in the background of one of the photos. Awesome to see one hanging with the scale gurus . I'm doctoring up mine with some proper Suisse inspired graphics so I can see the darn thing.
