Help!
Need your advice in selecting new 3d plane

Hi,
I've been flying mostly foamy 3d for a while now.
I'm ready to fly balsa 3d planes now,

Can you recommend a 3d wood/balsa plane that's built stronger than other kits?

Here's what I found so far:

Precision Aerobatics: Mini Katana
AJ Slick

Looking for 30-40" wingspan. Thanks a bunch!

Skip the PA Katana Mini as various reports suggest it's not for balsa beginners. Take a look at the 41' Edge in the link above and compare it to the 42' AJ Slick. Either of those planes should suit your needs very well but there is a big price difference between them so the 41' Edge is a safer bet as a first balsa plane in case you totally trash it and need to buy another plane :O. The 41' Edge also has nice "foamy-like" wire landing gear to cope better with less than perfect landings.

And the 41" Edge was designed with pilots in mind making the transition from foamies to balsa.

Plus, there are 15 build videos you can watch on the website, so that will put all of your fears of assembling a balsa plane to rest. Not that it takes that long to assemble, but the build videos are extremely comprehensive and very detailed.

Wow thanks for your quick response.

The reason why I was considering PA was because they use a lot of carbon. I thought carbon makes it more durable.

I didn't find them any more durable than 3DHS planes, if anything probably less durable overall than 3DHS.

the owner of 3DHS is alot more visible and is willing to go beyond the sale to ensure you are a happy customer. if you do your homework on these threads you'll see this is a true statement. question, what foamie have you been flying 3d with?

I've flow various types of foamies. Grayson hobby Yak, Blade 3d, Revolution 3d.

I actually have a Fliton Edge Mini that I fly too (it's balsa), which I enjoy very much.

Sounds like Slick is very popular.

Carbon is very ridgid and reduces weight. Wire gear, properly designed as Ben has done, is insanely strong and will bend rather than break. If you want durability the wire gear on the 41 edge is unbeatable.

At $12~15 for a bad landing do you want CF landing gear on your first balsa?

I have to agree. The 41" Edge is an amazing "bang for the buck". At $99, I just don't think you're going to find anything close in terms of quality and design. On top of that, you'll get top notch support from the 3dhs crew. There's a great set of build videos, too.

my only concern was you going from a foamie which you harrier land to a plane that you actually need skills to land (any balsa built up plane) since you already fly a fliton edge...ohhhh yeeeaaahhh go get either the 99 buck huck(EDGE) or 42 in Slick.
