Still no connectors, Arthur?
Well I hate to get stuck if it's only a tiny thingy missing to get a project done!
The servo connector cables weren't available for my set so I had to go into a local RC store and empty my wallet to get 16 cables which I had to cut and solder. And don't ask me for the price I payed!

The shop who sells ArduPilot Mega board is now on vacation.
So all package will be reached in 2 weeks.
I am looking forward to having all the parts on my DIY octo.
I will report on making my octo.
Looking forward to (maybe the first) ArduOcto based on this project.
If you're willing to pay a little more you can purchase the GPS board in Germany:

It's available there!

Ardu Copter

You've done a great job with this build log.

I'm a member of the ArduCopter core team and I'm very impressed with what you've done so far. Chris Anderson(project leader) has commented on how good your documentation is.

I was hoping a member of our team would have done this, but you've beat us to it and probably have done a better job.

Best Regards,

Ken

Thx, Ken!
Now that I am an official member of the ArduCopter team you can state that this log was made by a team member.

I'll still have to refine lots of things here and especially update some of the graphics as they don't fit to a multirotor build. Jani already announced to get some better pics.

Anyway ... as soon as the www.arducopter.com site is online we can move all the stuff there.

Keep up the good work!

Yes, I can confirm you are a team member and rightfully so with the work you've already done.

kinderkram I just received the Oilpan from DIYDrones and it got here fast.
Ordered on 8/4 rec/d today, 8/6
This board is very small for all the electronics it has.
I'll start soldering the headers and see how it goes.

Wow, that was fast! Ok, you're living in the states - should be that way.

Good luck with the soldering, Old Surehand!

P.S.: You should control every soldered point twice & thrice!

P.P.S.: One more hint for the soldering of the middle row of the right angle pins (as soon as you'll get the APM you'll see that this one is the worst): the best method for soldering the middle row is to put the soldering iron vertically from above onto the soldering point and then add some solder. That's what worked best for me.

KinderKram, Great information on building and setup of the ArduCopter. I just recently built mine using DiyDrones electronics.
Here are the specs:
ArduCopter Electronics-Ardiuno Mega, ArduPilot Mega IMU Shield/OilPan V1.4. Frame by Mike Grundvig mike@electrotank.com
25 Amp Turnigy ESCs,AeroQuad BL2217/9 Rx-AR6110E

The QuadCopter flys great and the electonics are easy to program and assemble.

Congratulations, JC!
Your build looks tough. I already saw that frame somewhere on Ebay. What were the overall costs of the complete frame ... if I may ask?

Every time I come here this site is growing up!
Nice site, kinderkram, thanks.
Oilpan was arrived from the shop. Rest of parts will soon be here.
Then I will start soldering.
Hand-made frame is now 50% completed.

Wow these boards are small. The soldering holes are even smaller.
Now I see why it was recommended to get 1mm point on solder iron and 1mm solder.
I will go real slow and use the magnifying glass and steady my hand on something solid.
I also have a good bright light and will need all the above to make good joints.
Tomorrow I start soldering.
Wish me luck.
