Must see for Club History!!!

"Very 1st Outboard Race 35 years ago today" (November 7, 1976)

Back when the SFMYC was a veritable powerhouse in the model boating community: The very first running of what would later become the "Shelby Cup" for Outboard Racing.

Much appreciation and great thanks to Bill Blackwell <Slowboat510> who was there for the event all those years ago and who found and shared his memories and treasures with us on another thread!!!

Everyone knows I am not new to this, but lipo battery questions still arise...As you know I have been running lipos ever since I have been running these boats. Everyone I have talked to says go to a higher C rating than what the mfg recommends. I have done so and have had no issues since then. But at the same time I have been reading that in high stress running situations lipos don't like it too much when you stomp on the gas from the start. So my question is should I have taken it easy from the starting point to let the lipos warm up and then go WOT?

UPDATE 11/12/11

Ran my boat with the packs that puffed up from last run today and took it easy but built up to WOT....batteries were warm but didn't puff this time and motor was cool as well. Boat ran beautifully stayed pretty flat on the water with my packs and turned on a dime. WOOHOO! Glad I bought this rig.

Successful run of my Mystic but merky

All of us had some fun today but the lake was filled with that green algae crap which dirtied everyone's rig. Feel sorry for the Regatta run tomorrow. UGH I had to wipe down my hulls.

True but it depends on the wind currents as well because one hour it would be ok the next it would be all CRAP. Today it was just like that. In the morning it was bad...as the day went on by2pm it was WORSE!!!! SMELLED of methane and it looked like pea soup.

The water was similar to the time of the Fishing gambler event.

Noticed the difference between the two threads and am crossposting this on both

Kind of a shame to look at the threads for the central park boat pond and the San Francisco guys, both found one above the other on this very page today. The SF thread is vibrant with activity and participation and modeling skill. The Central Park thread is about trying to restore an unused/unusable pond to some kind of public use.....sad to say, Come On New York! that is probably the most famous boat pond if the world and it is unusable to the public! The spirit of famous literature and films live in that area and it has been surrendered to the wants and needs of a few rather than the people of New York!

If I had the wherewithal to go on a driving vacation (I do not), I would make sure that the 'boat box (i.e. beat up old springer, and a RTR tug, charger, radios, accessories) was in the back of the car, I would have no hesitation about bringing it with me to Golden Gate Park (where I did indeed drive my first R/C boat nearly four decades ago, thanks to a nice SFMYC member), Central Park........why bother to waste the trunk space if I have to do an 'occupy Central Park pond' in order to run?

I wanted to participate in the regatta but got discouraged by the mishap I had in the green muck. Didn't feel right afterwards, like it was going to be a bad day...so I hung out at with some "irregulars" and just played with my tug and one round with my Mystic
