Finally I think I have solved the ESC overheating problem which plagued both of my V450D01's in full fuselages for the longest time. I bought some heat sinks from Radio Shack, attaching 3 apiece onto each ESC using Arctic Silver compound. Been flying so far with no problems.

V450d01 Impression compared Trex 450
Ok time for some comparison. I don't have now and is looking into it.
1. What is general consensus on V450D01 as 450 class FBL heli? 2. Any typical Walkera part issue such as strip servos..etc? 3 3-axis gyro system compared to 3G,3GX or Beastx? For potential buyer, would you recommend this? I don't fly 3D, just circuit and later some sports flying. Right now I fly Gaui 200 with beastx and Mcpx. Looking for my first 450 FBL. The Trex 450 v2 pro 3gx has reset issues and its more expensive compared to V450d01. I want RTF 400/450FBL RTF heli. Was looking at V400d02 also. |

I have one for sale with all the issues worked out and tuned;
You have to watch the Stock ESC, Servo's and setup is critical with this heli. The one I am selling flys really good and is all updated RTF. Check the listing. I also have a Trex 450 pro and the trex is not as powerful as my V450, honestly The V450D01 is a cheap way to get into entry level Flybarless 450, parts are cheap and it holds well as long as you dont crash. Take a look at the listing and look around, I think its a good deal as its just take out of the box and fly , no mess, no fuss, no worry. It allready be done

All I can say is WOW for this morning. My blue Bell 222 v450D01 flew like butter with those Radio Shack heat sinks, in an area I found in the back of the parking lot and to the right of the Broward Community College where there is so much space you don't want to fly so far away as to loose orientation of the heli. To top it off on one of the flights I used an E-Flite High Power Series 30C 3S 3200 mAh battery, which lasted a full 12 minutes. I will not stretch it that far in future flights though; just wanted to see how long I could fly before the motor started losing RPM's. I will fly 10 minutes or so with it from now on though. And though it is bigger and heavier than the stock 2200 mAh batteries the V450D01 carried it around, zipping along like it was nothing. Unbelievable. What a beautiful morning it was; no wind whatsoever and a clear sky at daybreak. So glad I came out and flew today. It really gave me a new enthusiasm for flying.
![]() This area has an unused straight and narrow road also; a perfect runway if I ever decide to get a planker. ![]() Here is a short clip of the flying area this morning; sorry, no flight video.

Glad to hear you had a good day of flying today.
I was reading some of your earlier post trying to catch up on this thread and I think you deserved a good day my friend. These heli's are anything but BnF or RTF out of the box new, or maybe it's more accurate to say its hit or miss......sometimes you get lucky, wouldnt you agree?You know when its right I think when you get 10 or 15 flights in a row, battery after battery and nothing crazy is happening. I think the most important thing with this heli is binding on flat solid ground after that its all good stuff. |

Yes, the second V450D01 was not good at all but balancing the blades finally helped among other things; I don't remember everything I did to get it flying right. It is in the black and white Airwolf now and though it flies well the blue Bell 222 flies better, and it has the older mechanics of my first V450D01.

The Rx is fine but thats probably max for a 450 size, the wind (which has been much more severe for me this season on the mid east coast) is the difference between you flying the heli or the heli flying you
FBL handles wind better since less aerodynamic drag and quicker reaction etc.. But I wouldnt go past 20mph with a 450 and even then it would be a ball break to fly it.A nice SW 5mph breeze is perfect or and indoor gym, when I fly (Hover Test) in my small yard 20x15ft there is 0 wind and its so much more enjoyable to fly in 0 winds for me. Thats why lately I think the 450 size is not big enough for me now, I want something that i can fly in 20mph winds since here we only had maybe 3 or 4 days with winds under 5mph. I dont want have to watch the trees blowing outside my house and have that make the determination if im going to fly today or not, id rather be able to chop it up regardless......... ![]() To answer your question though, its not the RX its the size of the heli that 15mph winds will effect. |

Depends on your piloting skills, it can get away from you real fast. Ive seen pro pilots fly with the trees blowing in the backround uneffected. So its the pilot skill lvel too, hard to generalize that. For the beginner intermediate 15mph on a 450 could be a stressful flight. Especially if you arent using Stunt mode 1 with the negative pitch to come down, since the wind causes the heli to bob into translational lift.
Think of it as having a 15lb bass on your fishing line, it could be a heck of a fight.... But tell that ot bert k. and he will laugh at you. (not in public of course, only in his head) |

Odd behavior with this mornings flight. My V450 with the blue Airwolf fuselage suddenly gained altitude and I almost lost orientation. At first I thought it had to be me just not paying enough attention. When I landed the rotor would not stop spinning; I tried the switches (except throttle up 3D mode) on the Tx but none of them would stop the rotation. I had to let 12 minutes pass before the battery finally died enough so I could disconnect it. Was it a Tx problem?
