Gel or Foam Tape for old CMS Gyro?

I have dusted off my C30SRX and went over everything, and re-mounted my old
CSM360 gyro using some spare gel-tape that originally came with it. Well,
the first shake-down flight was OK, but during the second, the Heli had an
intense wag. Thinking it was a head overspead problem, I fiddled with the
engine until I simply pressed down again on the Gyro to 'squash' the gel
tape, where it then stablized. So my question is such: Do I have to use the
gel tape, or can I simply re-mount the Gyro with foam tape? I do have a
slight low-speed vibration that I never could quite get worked out during my
previous flying years (it goes away once the head is up to speed, and is
slight anyway - it is more noticable if I run grommets in between the
landing gear and frame instead of hard-mounting the gear). I suspect the
Gyro is vibrating on the gel tape, but the instructions state not to use
foam tape. What is your experience?

Thanks!

The tape that came with my CSM is a green 'gel' type double-sided tape
(purchased it in the 1997-98 timeframe when they first hit the market). That
is, each side is sticky while the middle is about 1/8" thick and is of a gel
type consistency, not foam (or at least not the type of foam that came with
my Futaba gyros). I replaced the old pads with some OEM spares that were
included with the gyro, and that is when my problems started. I was just
wondering if I could simply use foam tape or not. I still have a few more
spares that came with the gyro, so maybe I will replace it once again and
hope for the best.

Thanks!

Wierd. Go to a decent model shop, or order from www.revolutionmodels.co.uk
and get the CSM Gyro Pads. They're foam, trust me.

Midland Heli have a pack of 10 for 1.99 inc. vat: CSM Gyro Mounting Tape -
360/400/420/540/560 (10)

Re: Gel or Foam Tape for old CMS Gyro?

Thanks. I picked up a set from my LHS and these new ones are definately
foam, which is much different from the ones that came with my Gyro
originally (a green gel type). Also, these new foam ones are much stiffer. I
suspect these will fix my problem.

Thanks!
