On that subject (GoPro HD noise emissions) I have done some measurements as well recently:

Does this mean that the GoPro DO effect the dragonlink LRS?

and in laymans terms: the GoPro has noise in the 433 band, but it doesn't swamp the entire band. The FHSS will hop around these spikes, far out you will have a reduced packet count (reduced control authority) but overall range will remain roughly the same. I'd be more worried about the drag of the camera to reduce your range

Ive done a little bit of rocketry with my family, I could make you up a motor that gives of 1050 newtons of thrust for 0.3-0.5 seconds and punches a ~2.5kg rocket to just over a km high . probably unsuitable .

yeah. I'm a bit concerned that the tape-strapped gopro wouldn't fly as high as the rest of the plane

Yeah that occured to me to . Way off topic, We strapped it to a trike bicycle thing I built and launched it across a gravel yard, pretty spectacular roll followed after. Sorta back on topic you could use a micro hybird rocket engine. They sustain burn for about 4-6 seconds and only put out about 120newton for most of the duration.

All pretty impractical.

Sorry for rambling.

Regards

Doug

Have been into RC off and on for many years including Helis but this...WOW... it what has been lacking all the time for me. Just finishing up my first FPV a EZstar. Will use it to get experience and upgrade my skills. Would like to get one of these this later on as low and fast is so very cool. Very dumb question: I went to the Ritewing website and cannot find any model called a Zephr.....please go easy on me.........

Thanks Trappy,

Do you by any chance record the actual video from the FPV mini cam? I would be interested in seeing the video as you get out to 10KM and on.

Very exciting and beautiful videos...I spend more time watching and rewatching your videos than building....

no, I don't actually record the footage. But since this has been quite a request lately I might take the recorder with me next time (I'm lazy, and it's a 1h walk up the mountain, so I'm usually happy to leave stuff down in the valley). the video quality is noise-free and very clear. haven't had any noise issues whatsoever in the 10km flight. in the 15km flight there was a bit of noise, but I think the video is more than flyable out to 20 - 25km.

this is on stock antennas by the way. I know I could do much better with specifically tuned antennas ... I actually have sent a few whips to a good friend who has offered to tune them for me
