I've had zero issues when launching from an elevated spot (2-3 meters is usually fine, or a 10 degree decline). since in FPV you'll always launch from an elevated place (unless you enjoy having crappy LOS and bad range) that's not a big issue for me. but when someone else launches while you watch the goggles, it'll be pretty hard to determine the moment he lets go. I've thought about using voice commands ... like "throwing in 3 ... 2 ... 1 ... *throw*" wait half a second, then rev up. but again, a little risky ... might have to ask him to wear gloves.

The over the head backwards toss works great for a heavy Zephyr. That's exclusively how I (we) launch mine now.

I haven't attempted this alone, but I did see a video of one of the Australian fliers doing this alone with a Zephyr. I think a hard hat would be in order for my first solo attempt...

Since I stared launching this way, I've never had an issue...

Oh, and with the over the head backward launch, I'm at full throttle before it is tossed. I think this fact has a lot to do with the success of this launch method...

yeah, the main problem is I can't reach to the throttle fast enough before it hits the ground. if someone throws it for me I can rev up immediately and there are no problems. so the over-the-head-backwards method is pretty interesting as it allows you to launch at full throttle.

I've also considered a discus launch at full throttle with my other hand on the stick ready to fly once it leaves my hand. I know it will have a tendancy to curve like a back handed thrown frisbee.

If you have enough thrust, can you create a stand and launch it like this:

No good to have a simple pressure switch at the grip point which disables the motor?

Thrower holds the plane, disabling motor. Pilot throttles up. Nothing exciting happens. Thrower throws the plane and motor is instant-on.

When you have your eagle tree osd. You can finnaly start getting some real flying and range. You need RTH for that.
