Hmm, mebbe the"hand built stand" is made of solid gold. It bothers me a bit when the brass portholes in the hull sides don't line up nicely; it really shows up on these boats, even at a distance. Given the vagaries of balsa wood, it isn't always easy to align them properly, but it is important to try to do so.
There's no sign of a handrail, handrail stanchions, or white canvas dodger.
IMHO, it needs so much correction and completion as is, it isn't anywhere near a $ 1,000 boat. It just might float, but it isn't seaworthy or see-worthy now.

Actually that boat is much more interesting as a 'folk art' piece, though nowhere near $1500 IMHO, as it looks to be a classic school / manual-arts shop class built boat based on the Cavileer shop textbook plans.

Looks like she was 'refinished' recently, the paint is pretty bright. The modern clear-tape 'decaling' definitely detracts from her value and looks.

High bids are in the eye of the beholder I guess.
