USS Intrepid CVS 11

Hi All,

Yesterday I was able to visit the USS Intrepd CVS - 11, which now forms part of a museum open to the public on New York Harbour.

I had a great day and was lucky enough to be invited in to the Mess occupied by the USS Intrepid Assocoation. Unlike previous encounters with the "dry" ships of the USN, I am pleased to announce that I was warmly welcomed by Mr. Bud and Mr. Coors.

Anyway, I have a quite a few photos of the old girl including pics of the lovely array of aircraft ranged on deck.

Please let me know if you would like to see the photos.

Regards,

Andrew

Intrepid Part 2

Second set of photos. My link is real poor at the moment. Will post the rest later.

Interesting to see the old cold war symbology on the plots. Also, the escalator is "real". The Aircrew ready room was too far below the flight deck for the "alert" pilots to be able to get to their planes quickly with all of their flightg gear on.

Apperently this escalator travelled much much faster than the shopping mall escalators!

That is really a great set of photos. It must have been very impressive to actually visit and see all that equipment up close. But where are Mr. Bud and Mr. Coors? Ought to be a pic of them in there somewhere. I also would love it if the pictures could be labeled so we would know what were looking at. Is that a real Blackbird I see there? Amazing. And whats that ramp like thing sticking off the side of the ship? Maybe where ya walk the plank huh? Pete

Sorry for no labels, it took me foreever to get these up due top bandwidth issues (Lack of)

Yes that is a real blackbird and the extension is the hull extension after the end of the catapult. The strop that you can see was part of the gear used to capture the "sling" that was used to hook up to the aircraft.

In life I think thatthere was netting around the extension.
