Anyone going to SAC Electric Fly-in (Chicago-area) this weekend?
I'm currently planning on going to the SAC Electric Fly-in this weekend - weather permitting.
Anyone else going?

I figured I would post some additional information I received about the fly-in.
I e-mailed the contact for the fly-in and he provided the following response:
E fly usually starts about 9:00 ends about 3:00
400' paved runway
bring your own lunch and drinks
last year we had about 25 flyers lots more planes
because SAC is a large club and if attendance is low we will allow
glow electric mixed flying for 30 minuets every hour, although we have not
had this happen the last several years because of good turnout.
Now if only the wind would die down.

Short Fly-in Report
The SAC electric fly-in was fun. Weather couldn't have been much better (<7 mph but mostly light and variable), mid-50s temps.
The pilots were all friendly, and there were a good number of non-electric folks there being impressed by what they saw. Joe Price the CD (for lack of a better term, since it was just an open fly-in type of event), was very nice and made everyone feel comfortable and at home.
I got in a couple of good flights with my Manx, but am having a tough time getting a good launch which eventually led to it's demise. My endo-powered Magic was well liked and flew great. Unfortunately, a gremlin I thought I had eliminated, returned and stopped me after only three flights.
Some of the highlights for me were:
(Understand, that I have basically no exposure to much electric flying other than my own, SalC's and RK's, so some of this may seem mundane to some of you.)
- Seeing my first Pico Jet and Twinjet. Both of these planes were impressive. Very zippy, but nice ability to slow down for landing. I think I appreciated the Pico Jet more for it seemed as fast as the Twinjet but only needed one motor.
- Saw a Graupner Mini-viper. It was the first pylon type plane I've seen in person. Although, even by the owner's admission, it's not as fast as stuff out there today, it was still a nice quick, maneuverable plane. Although, I wouldn't say it's a quantum step faster than my Manx.
- Also saw a DMA flea on an 010. Neat plane with great maneuverability and speed retention.
- An Ace Cloud Ranger (I think) on some fancy motor and 16 cells. Very impressive plane (and flying). It was definitely a glow equivalent.
- A Multiplex Stuntman. What a nifty little geared 280 plane! The pilot had various forms of coupling employed including independent elevators to be able to make them elevons. The thing was very close to a 3D plane without the hover. Really cool.
- A guy dropped paratroopers a few times from a Twinstar which was fun.
Overall, I had a good time and hope I can come out next year as well.

BTW, Dan, who were (are?) you?
I tried to meet some of the folks there, but I'm not sure I met you. What were you flying?

I must have missed you (I left around 1:30.)
I don't think I saw your plane (or you for that matter).
Oh well, maybe next year?
