How To find CG!

If you are building a new plane from scratch or are doing some kit bashing how do you find the new CG to balance the plane?

That isn't necessarily an easy answer. If you have a conventional design with a constant chord wing, the CG will probably be about 1/3rd back from the leading edge. Delta wings, flying wings, canards - now it can get tricky.

The beauty of scratch building is that you get to experiment. Mountain Models was formed out of my desire to experiment. You should see what's on my building board now.

The plane i am building is just a scaled down lite stick, the wingspan is now 30" and the tail is about 11" and the fuse stick is about 18" now. It will have ailerons and a carbon fiber leading edge. hopefully will be very durable and fly a little better in the wind

I've found out the best way to "balance out" a new plane is to take the wife out for a nice movie and dinner. Otherwise she feels extremely unbalanced, with you spending more on toys than her.
