Gaui 330x Quad Flyer UPGRADED!! New Motors. New ESC's, MIKROCOPTER FRAME!

hey men, i dont know if anyone tried this yet, maybe im the first... anyway i took the gaui quad that the frame kept flying apart on me in mid air so i decided to try and upgrade it a little. so i found a link to this page of a quad build

http://aeroquad.info/bin/view/Main/PartsList_v2

just a little about me. i am a senior heliman for many years, this is my first or quad rebuild.

i use the gaui brain (from the new 330x quad toy) set up with switch 1 down and switch 2 also down on the main quad brain as denoted on page 15 of thier instructions, this allows one of the arms to be the nose directly.

then i used

Turnigy 2217 16turn 1050kv 23A Outrunner

http://www.hobbycity.com/hobbyking/s...idProduct=5690

TURNIGY Plush 30amp Speed Controller

http://www.hobbycity.com/hobbyking/s...idProduct=2164

-------

and four props each 12x3.8 slow flyer.. 2 pusher and 2 puller

one mikrocopter frame

and my futaba 8ch rx pcm and a 3 cell 4000 mah lipo

i took it out to fly... see my next thread below..

Try individually calibrating the ESC's with the gyro pot switched down to 0.. ie off.

update it flies! and its so smooth in the air. but its SO bad in the wind! it goes crazy and osolates, i almost lost it several times. i have both switches 1 and 2 on the brain set to the down position. i tried gain and end points and direction rates all not helping. i added weight to it that helped. any advice?

Just a guess, but how much do your props weigh?

For a comparison - GWS 11 x 4.7s are 10gm and work well on tricopters.

If your props are much heavier than that then try something lighter so that your motors can speed change faster.

If they are nice and light they should be fine as lots of people use that size on quads.

Assuming your gain is about right I think your problem is that your motors are fairly high kv for a larger motor on a multi.

On a light machine they are working well below their efficient rpm. Add large props and speed changes become too slow to produce good stability.

The smaller props should help alleviate that.

That's all I can come up with as the gaui 344 seems to be working well for everyone. (I just ordered one myself)

Anyway, it won't cost much to find out. Good luck.

Is there somewhere you can order just the Gaui brain? I already have a custom built Quad frame with motor/esc's and just need a controller for it.

Are you saying that the 10 inch props are not helping your quad?
Have you tried different gyro gain settings with them?

I can't really offer a recommended motor but I can say that for tris a bit lower kv is usually better and I see no reason why quads would differ.
The DT750 (750 kv) is very popular in larger tris, I run them myself and three can easily lift the sort of load you're anticipating.

For my quad, I'm planning to use 2410 09s (840 kv). These are another known good performer in tris although they can be unreliable. Unfortunately they were about all I could source at the time.

Both are usually run on 3s by the way. I have run DT750s on 4s and they're fine, but I need to re-tune my gyro to suit the higher voltage. It seems to make the motors respond differently. Now I just stick to 3s.

If you are running more than 3s then it might be worth getting back to 3, at least until you get things sorted. More cells can make things weird. The voltage makes your motors want to run faster.

Personally I wouldn't rush to change motors until you get some more feedback and try a few things.
