G'day Gill,
Those 975 motor's look nice what the spec's on them ie: no poles, size,Price!, etc and where can you get them mate?

1st the forward windows are typical on this tug as is the stairs. They also can produce a lowered deck version, but as I was told it is a rare beast. most are sold with the flush deck. Bunks or storage could be installed on ether side of the stairs. The bottom step is just above water line and has a drain. The engine size in this tug was up to the customer and runs from twin 6 cyl. 250 hp to twin 875's
Sorry I listed the wrong number for the motors.
They are 987 Nichibo motors:
18 volt
2.6 amp no load
24,500 rpm @ 18v
7 pole with fan
6mm shaft
51.9mm dia.
69mm can length
102mm o/a length
I will be running these at 6 volts. That will give me 8,166 rpm, I have tried them with the 50mm 5 blade prop. At full speed, under static load (6 volts, prop in water) I had 7,812 rpm and it drew 7.3 amps. The thrust was unreal.
Sorry these motors were samples with in the industry. To buy them they are available in quantities of 1,000 pc.
There are others rated at 12 volts 1@ 13,000 rpm and the 2nd at 3,000 rpm They are the same size and have massive torque.
Shafts arrived yesterday and I hope to install tonight.

BUGGA !! Oh well I'm thinking of getting a pair of 900's for my 1m big AHST tug (1/72 of course!) or use the pair of geared (5.9:1)pittman's I scored off a mate.

Knowing how push tug's (and Springer's) tend to bury their bow's under the water at anything other than 'slow ahead', having an opening in the fore deck is asking for trouble.
The 'drain' you have, is it overboard?... and a large diameter?

Well the drive shafts came in yesterday. They are now temp-mounted and run true. The perminate mounting will be when the hull is poly coated. I have also painted and mounted the radio plate. The rudder lay out is finnished. I hope that to night I can start making the rudders and kort nozzels.
I am using 2 PRO-100 POLK ESC's $ 10.00
Rated at 5-9.6 volt 100 amp. DIm: 1x1x5/8 They do have a 10 sec time limit in reverse. if you need more time just go to stop and back down.
I have used these in a number of models. When Polks was closing them out I purchased a couple of boxs of them. There are 15 in a box. Yes I do work for Polks.

Drive shafts are mounted, radio tray is painted, rudders are laid out, and rudder servos are mounted. I did another component layout with the batteries.
2 - 6volt 4 ah gel cells 1 for each motor. 2 - 7.2, 2200ma packs in series for 14.4 volts for lighting, sound, and smoke. The 4 inch speaker will be mounted under the front deck, facing up, the bow will be made into a sound chamber for the speaker.
It's a busy week end so no work on any of the models. Saturday the Mt Olive boat show. Sunday one in Philidelphia.

No I won't be there next Sunday. But I will have it at the Mt Olive run. I'll be doing the sanding there. Maybe poly coating it too.

I did bring it to the Mt Olive run. Great day, Sat postponed, but Sun was fantastic. The had poly coated the inside the day before. I sanded the conners at the run.
