The plan shows the wing fully sheeted but a number of us were talking and have decided to build it with a sheeted d-box and have it be open behind the spar. We are just going to beef up the spar a little to compensate for the open wing.

I'm liking that idea but will decide when I take a gander at the plans. If I go all black I may sheet it if I dbox it I will definately want a trasparent covering. we shall see.

Looks like I have all the stuff except for the wing servos and covering, customer brought me the drafting mylar so I'll start traceing the plans to it this weekend.I will also make the patterns for the root and tip ribs so they are ready to go.The ribs will be made just as the plan shows but I'll sheet just the Dbox and use 1/16x1/4" cap strips on the rear of the ribs. The center section will be sheeted top and bottom out to the last plywood rib and I'll sheet the bays at the dihedrial break.Has anybody given any thought to the finish on the fuse yet?The grain on the ply I have for the sides looks so nice I might use a combo of paint, stain and clear rather than cover it up.

HI Wayne,

Thanks for the compliment about me being a building machine. But, I have a secret weapon when it's comes to building. NO WIFE. That means I can build all I want, any time I want. No wife = No Pressure.

Bob - How long are the cf pushrods you ordered?

I use them on every plane I can. Early in my RC flying life, I had a steel push rod rust in the sleeve. The corosion caused it to jam and the plane went down. So now it's C/F or cable. The cable sheeve also works for the C/F rods. I buy the cable in 30 ft rolls.

Got my plan set today. Very fast coming over from the UK.

I have a rookie question(1st scratch build) - I was expecting 2 plan sheets and only got one. The sheet shows half of everything. How do you guys do the opposite half? Do you have a mirror image of the plans made up, or do you build the opposite side upside down on the same plan or do you build to the same and just apply the dihederals opposite?

Obviously the stab would get the same treatment.

I may have jumped in over my head here but I am a quick learner and should be ok. Please feel free to tell me if the questions are too basic(read experience) for this project and you feel I should start with something else as the first scratch build.

Other hand otherwise!

Bob:

Unless you have an electronic file copy of the plan, a mirror image is going to be expensive. In the "ole days" we built one half an the top of the plan, and rubbed the plan with mineral oil (makes it transparent), flipped it over, and built the other half. Usually worked and guarenteed that both halves were the same size.

These days you could spray the plan with cooking spray and get the same result,I traced mine on to drafting mylar. If you look back a page or so Wayne has a post where he tells where he took his plans and paid about 7 bucks for a copy and a mirror copy.

I saw that post but he didn't say which store. Maybe he will enlighten us. I'll give Kinkos a try this weekend.

Laser cut ribs!!

Alright everyone, I have been talking with Tony and he is good to go. So here is the deal. As of this moment I have the following people wanting laser cut ribs:
  1. KickAce 2 sets
  2. FoamCrusher 1 set
  3. HirCer 1 set

I am sending you 3 a PM with Tony's contact information. He is expecting you. All of you want the same rib sets, D-box sheeting of the original airfoil. Mention Bob or me, Wayne, and he will give you the discounted price. He has stated that his laser cutting time is limited but this should be more than enough time to get them by the start date.

If any additional people want a laser cut set of ribs now is the time, this will not be an ongoing offer throughout the build. He will still cut them for you but the price goes back up to the normal price of $70.

Hi 3sport,

I took my Raven plan to a local copy shop that primarily copies building plans. They make big copies all day long and only 2 sheets was nothing for them. Look in your local phone book under copy and duplicating services and call some places. You may find it to be less expensive than you think.
