Now I'm looking for components to build up the kit and I'm curious if anyone can point me in the right direction when it comes to motors. I've seen a few people talking about specific motors they've used but it would be really helpful if someone could talk a little about dimensions - especially the shaft diameter and bolt pattern.

Also, for the "standoff" that distances the main part of the motor from the mounting surface of the EDF housing, is there a certain length I should be looking for?

I couldn't say for sure but judging from pictures I've seen here on RCGroups, the motor you sent the link for looks short. I believe he is using this motor (or one like it,) which has a taller standoff to distance the stator from the mounting surface. I'm still curious to know the dimensions of the Dynam fan housings but I think you will want one of these two styles. HK offers both in a variety of KV ratings.

The difference is 4mm. Not short by much, Wish I had seen those, they look nicer for the same price. I will try these, who knows when I will build it anyway.

I flew my 3S version this weekend for the first time in a while and it was still a great flyer too. I use landing gear. I would love to have the 4s ESC's in there but alas I don't.

A company up here in Ontario called Kondor Models is bringing in an A10 twin EDF that looks identical to the postings in this thread - PNP, retracts, 41.7 inch (1060 mm) wing.

I am wondering if tthe retracts will stand up to regular use and I eventually will be replacing with EFlite electrics?

Also the advert says a 6S 4000mah battery. I see references in this thread to 3S. Is this two 3S batteries, one for each motor?

This won't likely be the Dynam A-10 as the stock Dynam plane doesn't come with retracts. It would require quite a bit of surgery to make retracts fit but I suppose anything is possible. The stock fixed landing gear gets bent back on hard landings, This would still be similar with retracts. Since the A-10's retract (if they exist) would unfold to the rear, they shouldn't strip too easily, however, the struts can still bend. Once you get good at landing, the gear shouldn't be a problem.
Are you sure about the wingspan? I just bought this one. It's quite a bit bigger and runs on 6S. It has retracts.

Word has it that those retracts are weak.

The A10 I am refering to looks identical to the one in Melnic`s video above except he hand launched.

Specs are 1060mm wing, 31 oz weight, 2x30 amp ESCs, 8x9 gr servos, no flaps, mechanical retracts, 2x4300kv outrunners.

I see a reference to 3S batteries in above posting so I am assuming that you run this A10 on two 3S 4000 mah LiPos. Don`t think you could run 4S LiPo on a 30 amp ESC. I am waiting for confirmation from the distributor up here.

Don`t like the idea of mechanical retracts. There are 8 servos - 2xelev, 2xaileron, 1 for steering. So I assume the remaining 3 servos are for the retracts. Not clear if they are screw or slam-bang.

Want the specs clear in my mind before I order.

The Dynam A-10 flies on 1-2200 mah, 3S battery. That A-10 is slightly smaller. 2x 4000 mah seems a bit much. I think that advert is wrong. It won't run on 6S. You'd fry the motors/ESCs in seconds. And putting two 3S batteries together in parallel won't get you 6S.

It runs on 3S. And I don't see putting two 4000 mah batteries in that one. It's designed for 3300 mah max.
Personally, I think the Dynam is a better product but if you must have retracts, I suppose you are limited.

Yep.........mechanicals. Must be one servo on each strut. Also must be the old slam-bang action. Makes for a short linkage but I would prefer electrics. If I buy the model I am sure I would eventually put EFlite elecs on.

I am trying to get an answer out of the supplier as to the LiPo requirement. Looking over some of the 71 pages in this thread it looks like ONE 3S 2200 or 2500. But the supplier`s advert says one 6S 4000. Haven`t heard back from him so looks like I will be phoning him Monday morning about the correctness of his advert.

BTW, that's a misprint. It runs on the same 3S, 2200 mah bat as the Dynam. 6S will blow that thing up before you taxi it to the runway.

Yep............ONE 3S 2200mah LiPo. Will phone Kondor Monday morning asking where his 6S 4000mah came from. A guess would be he saw 2200mah in the specs and instead typed 22.2V in his advert.

Will also ask when the Desert Storm A10 camo is available in Canada.
