I'm not an expert on AVR programming but where is your programmer getting it's power from? As far as I know all the serial programmers that have been used for this need 5V+ from the radio.
Well some further digging and I found no less than 4 different schematics for basic AVR interfaces! Hopefully this will keep others from pulling their hair out.

parallel port pin outs from different schematics, all use 18-25 for GND
Code:
MISO 11 10 10 11
MOSI 3 7 9 2
Reset 4 9 7 16
SCK 2 6 8 1
I have identified these as AVRSP, STK200, BSD and DAPA compatible basic unbuffered interfaces. A single page with concise info on the various interfaces.
So I can get on with using the radio... I ordered a completed device from sparkfun. While I'm waiting for it, I may still try to figure out what is going wrong, or if I need to use one of the other interface designs. I'll post what I find if I do.

Good luck. I tried about 5 of them, and had no luck.

Not sure why. I could flash another AVR I had with no problem, but not the atmega64.

After a fresh calibration

Sticks moved to full throw

-23400........-19650
-100........105
-24100........20300
-10875........-10625

Numbers with sticks centered

50
0
-100
-75

Now checking the dead spot with a fresh model and no programing.

Still have dead spot except for throttle...throttle is fine.

Looking at the numbers and seeing that the throttle is ok makes sence.

I'll deal with it for now untill a new version comes out dealing the trim/curve probs and the switch reversing fuction.

...........................................

I orded this programmer from sparkfun and it didn't work with several programs including ponyprog.

http://www.sparkfun.com/commerce/pro...products_id=14

I then bit the bullet and bought this one and it worked perfect. Ignor the price, he does that when it's out of stock in the US. I got mine in 3 days but no telling how long from china...prolly be 10-14 days.

My experience with PIC microcontrollers is much more robust than Atmels... and my serial port PIC programmer has always done the task.

Parallel and serial port AVR programmers seem to be riddled with problems, mostly from the lack of software support would be my guess.

The Pocket AVR Programmer from sparkfun is cheap, and works well (I am surprised you would buy a serial version when the USB is essentially the same price...)

I'd love to hear what the software guys say about why your numbers would be like that. Why would yours be so far off and what about the software would make it do that on yours but not someone elses.

It definitely sounds like your problem is much different than what I was describing.

I actually spoke to a tech at Sparkfun and explained what I was doing and he sugessted the serial so I just went with it.

Well, I would send them back.

I had a few dead spots on my radio, but after calibrating a few times, seemed to work fine.

I haven't tried any custom throttle curves. My time with Thus has been entertaining, but I need to fly a heli, so I think I am going back to Turnigy V2.

Has anyone tried the trainer function? Will it work with stock firmware?

Look at ISSUES folder at this site http://code.google.com/p/th9x/
then set to show all issues

EDIT: issue 19 and 21 are in german, so this is the translation

19 - No trim to mixers with curves
21 - Reversed switch function with " ! " ( !RUD ) inop

Just flashed Thus's new firmware. MAJOR improvements!

1. Expo and DR now on one screen. When you get to the EXPO/DR screen, select a %, and hit the menu button. Screen changes to a one where you can set hi and low rates, hi and low expo, and select a switch. I have Issue/Enhancement 17 in so that when you select the flight mode switch to assign rates/exp to, you could have three rates/expo.

2. Trim now works with curves (you can use a curve with throttle and the idle trim works). I'm still hoping he changes the built in curve for throttle from a expo curve to a 9 point curve. I have an Issue 18 in for that.

These changes alone make the upgrade worthwhile. I haven't play around enough to see the other improvements.

You set the trim value (with the trim button) to center the servo, then press right to set the base trim value. I noticed that after doing this you lose some travel in the stick movement at either end. On my elevator this reduction is 1/3 of my overall stick movement.

Is this normal behavior?

This is also affecting my delta mix. When I mix the elevator to the aileron it is changing the trim of the other channel to match the setting of the first. Unless I am setting this all up wrong.
I am using pre-programmed delta/elevon set-up. I have no problem with sub-trim changes.
