Oh my gosh, we get those at least twice a year here in the SF Bay Area; it seems like more during election years. I lost count. What stinks is that we're in the middle of four or more major airports and a military base-- if any one is chosen, pretty much the whole valley is grounded, and they usually have at least three airports selected, backup I guess, or to keep would-be bad guys guessing.

Incidentally, I was mistaken. I thought the no-fly was issued because of "VP travel in the area." On re-reading it, it was "VIP travel in the area," and it was actually the President who was here in Austin this afternoon.

Being autoless and broke, I didn't get over to see him.

I was wondering, but didn't want to contradict the wise old owl.

The only time they shut down airspace like that is for the Pres. or Pres. elect.

Well, no building for the next month. All my building tools, supplies, wood, etc are packed for the move. But, I am finally leaving the apartment life for a house... with a garage... and a backyard...

Ahhhhhhh......

What a nice & relaxing vacation! Spending time with the family, eating lots and lots of good food, hiking through the forest, enjoying the silence, chasing squirrels and chipmunks, seeing LOTS of stars in the sky, making s'mores.......

I feel as though my batteries have been fully recharged!

Now it's time to do some laundry to get that campfire smell out of everything.

It took about 17 seconds from the time the cargo jet’s wheels touched down to time it came to a screeching halt near the end of the runway, according to video taken by Ryan Gucwa, who was at the scene.
Seventeen seconds to go from over 100 knots to wheels stopped! Somebody's gonna need some clean drawers, too!

And I think you're right. SOMEBODY is gonna have a hard time explaining how they mistook a 3500-ft runway for an 11,500-ft runway in broad daylight!

That is too funny!

Now they just need to fit some JATOs so the plane can take off again.

Local news had a clip of it leaving last night. Amazingly with plenty if room to spare. 400k pounds and it took off in about the same distance as a heavy 152.
