I like what Eliworm said, “I use my drawings that were inspired by the Qtee design. If you compare the two you will see they are different.”
I think the word is “inspired”…..we see a plan, get an idea or urge and want to build. How many “active” builders are really left? How many plans? Probably more plans than all the builders could build in a few years!!!
For those that hold copy right, well and fine. There’s an abundance of other similar plans. Let the “protected plans” disappear into obscurity. In reality that’s what’s going to happen. If there is a plan that I really like and want, I don’t mind paying for it. In fact, I’ve bought several Guillow kits over the years just because I liked the plans ! (http://www.guillow.com/modelkits.aspx) Would I buy a “foamie” for the plans---no, would I even want a “copy right” protected foamie plan…no way. Maybe the way out of the copy right plan is to become inspired and redraw it and make a slightly different plan. Beauty is all in the eyes of the beholder.
To avoid potential problems on this site, why not just post the copy right plan on the other above suggested sites, or avoid it all together. Isn’t the whole idea to have fun and enjoyment?

You know this begs the question, especially for those plans after the 1960 cutoff date, say 60-70, and that is: What kind of market is there for those plans, especially something that would invoke legal action? Other than you people and a few of my fellow SAM members, not too many people build from scratch anymore.Furthermore those that do, such as myself, already have a HUGE pile of plans that they'll never EVER get too.

Anyway, it's a VERY Stormy day in Napa, so I guess I get the old scanner, and scan some LEGAL plans!

The thing is RCgroups does not have to prove anything. It's their site. Like I brought out in the example in my other post. They (Rcgroups or the copyright complainer) didn't prove anything, the thread was shut down no questions asked.

There's a word for that...

I'd like to make two points:

1. All this discussion is mainly down to our own personal attitudes. Some people live happily without looking for problems that are probably non-existent, while others feel happy nit-picking and coming up with all sorts of potential disasters that the first group hadn't thought of...

2. For me, this difference needs to be resolved by an objective answer to the following question:
Has anyone EVER lost a lot of money as a result of copyright legal action relating to an old model aircraft plan???
Has it ever happened? Even once, in the last Lord knows how many years...

OK... At best, these problems are "theoretical", if not totally non-existent...

to me ... if you do not want to look at a plan drawn after 1960 ... don't open it ....

if you think its not legal, report it ... tell it to the moderator or, tell it to your mommy ...

else, keep it to yourself and don't bitch to others about it.

As for how many plans I look at and how many of them I will never build ... to me, I love looking at plans and get Ideas on how similar planes are constructed and what can be done differently in my own designs ...

I've looked at plans for hours before ever cutting a piece of wood. I've built the plane several times in my head before ever adding a drop of glue on anything ...

I know I am not alone ... and then there are some drafters that their plans were like looking at a Picasso ... just pure awe inspiring ...

Man up, I swear some of those who post in here could be a clone of my ex!

1935 AeroModeller request and MB question

Does anyone have a copy of the 1935 November AeroModeller ? I am looking fora copy of the article and plan for the Lockheed Electra

if 1960 is the cut off for plans, does that keep all Model Builder plans from being posted?

I'm looking for a plan/3-view of the Delanne Duo Monoplane Four-seater. It's on the cover of Air Trails October 1950. There is a 3-view (see the blueprint in the background ) but darned if I can find it!

Urgent medical attention needed for the Vintage and Old Timer Plans Thread

It would appear that a highly cancerous discussion on the subject of Copyright is likely to cause the demise of this wonderful resource.

For some 3-400 pages this thread ran with beauty, joy and harmony with a whole heap of plans for everyone to enjoy.
There is only one person that has the right to say what falls within the bounds of this thread, the original conceiver of this thread, orange&white

Yes yes, I made a point about the boats, but I thought that was simply good logics to put boats in boat forum. That issue is dead and buried but this copyright issue isn't and should be.

Unless you have a law degree and specialise in the copy right field, but out. Keep your opinion to yourself.
Start your own bloody thread if you need to debate copyright issues and please, pretty please, pretty pretty please leave this thread alone...............unless of course you actually want to roll up your sleeves and contribute a plan of your own, otherwise, please go away.
Enough of all this misinformation and scaremongering.

Nothing is forever and sooner or later but very definitely at some time in the future (a long time in the future hopefully) this whole site will go.
Download your plans now and be very thankful it exists and use this wonderful site wisely and sensibly and please stop bitching like spoilt 5 year olds.
We all clearly have some of the little boy in us as we play with model aeroplanes. Lets play nicely together, please

POST A PLAN AND SAVE THE THREAD
