Looking for club S/E Suburbs of Melbourne

Hey guys

I'm pretty new to RC Aircaft (approx. 4 months). Been building a couple of foamies and fortunately i've run out of space at my local park. My latest scratchbuilt project has a wingspan of 2.35 meters! The bug has really bitten me

So im looking to join a club. I'm a student with a part time job and fees are of a concern.

Are there anything else that i need to know before joining a club?

Regards,
Vince

What do you fly??
If your flying electric Police Padocks near Dandenong is the best get together that I have ever seen, but its electric only.
Varms looks like a club thats on the brink of colapse there field is vary average and no one ever turns up.
Good luck

Unofficial club without the usual politics and BS of a club.

Also another concern for me is that my Tx and Rx is a crappy HobbyKing 7ch. I doubt a club or unofficial club would allow me to fly with them.

Are there any Tx Rx systems out there that anyone recommends (price range around $300-500 bucks)??

You can pick up a DX7 from Rojs for under 500 bucks. Or the Aurora basic kit.

What he said, and they use all sorts of hacked/cheap/no name brand gear.

Only 2 rules i know of:
Have a brain
Have fun
Be nice

Ok thats 3 but you get the drift.

most of the PP fliers hang out in this thread.

I have been in correspondence with someone from Semac a while ago, I think his name is Stephan. Semac is quite convenient for me as i live in neighboring keysborough. Just the fact that my radio is cheap is what worries me. It's not just the membership fees but purchasing a decent radio as well that adds to cost. Not easy for a student on part time wage.

I've also heard that I be allowed to fly till I get some sort of certification? Is this true?

Thanks in advance,
Vince.

You do need to get your radio certified if it is a 36Mhz one. Needs to be done every 2 years. Its not very expensive, might cost you $20-30. You will find that most clubs have this requirement. Basically just to make sure your radio plays well with others. Personally I haven't seen a radio fail yet.
