It would be interesting to give some of those a try, not too long ago someone posted the KV of the stock motor (or may have been the Extreme) in this thread. One thing to note, the 120 uses a .4 mod pinion which equates to 64 pitch , looks like most of those come with 48 pitch gears.

Thanks
This is what I started out on. Since then I've done mixes and change up settings to suit my preference and my 120's tendencies...

Here is my DX8 settings for the 120SR. I mostly fly outside so the default is F Mode 0. Warning... I've got it set for FFF in this mode! Flight Mode 1 is very tame and I use it to hover indoors or outside with no wind. FM2 is not set, so it's similar to the RTF Tx (only better.)

Oh, you have to follow your manual. You transfer it to the SD card that fits into your DX8. Then you do the appropriate loading sequence. If you get stuck, I can copy the instructions.

As you were, I found them, so here they are:

Quote:
INSTRUCTIONS FOR MODEL PRESET DOWNLOADS:

Scroll down to find the Hangar 9, E-Flite, Parkzone, or other model you own. Click on the “Download” button for that model. When you do so, you will be queried by your browser to Open or Save the file. Select Save. You may also be asked for a location and/or file name. Edit those as desired. Click on OK. Your computer will download the file and save it at the appropriate location.

Explore your computer to locate the file you just downloaded. Identify the drive assigned to your SD card. Drag and drop the file from the downloaded location to the SD card. On Mac and Linux machines, you will need to unmount the SD card.

Insert the SD card into your Spektrum radio’s card slot. While holding down the roller, power up the radio. When you see the System Setup menu, release the roller and scroll down to Model Select. Scroll down to select an unused model or a model you wish to erase.

Next, scroll down to the bottom of the System Setup menu and highlight the option Transfer SD Card. Click the roller. The Options field will change from Insert Card to Select Option. Use the roller to highlight this area, and then click it. This will cause the box to begin blinking. Roll to the Import Model and click the roller.

You will now see the word followed by a list of folders and/or files on your SD card’s root folder. Scroll down to the file you just downloaded and click to select it. MAC USERS: The Mac OS adds an extra file with the same name but with a leading dot. Skip over this file and select the one without the leading dot instead.

The screen will now prompt you to verify that the correct model is to be overwritten with the new file. Select CANCEL or IMPORT as appropriate. If you select CANCEL, you should go back and select the appropriate model to replace. By selecting IMPORT, the model will be loaded in and begin execution

2012-06-17 SR 120 Contour Flying.AVI (6 min 19 sec)
I'll be turning 65 next month and have only been flying a helicopter for about a year. This video shows that with practice it's possible to:
1. Fly fast for 6+ minutes in a confined space without crashing.
2. Hover hands off for at least 10 seconds.
3. Safely "Contour fly" within inches of obstacles including your face.

Pick up a decent tx. Check out the tips, tricks, mods and upgrades on this thread. Practice, practice, practice. Above all, never give up!

Any time. If you haven't gotten it, the John Salt's ebook, "Getting The Most Out Of
Your Blade mSR/X & 120SR" is a great help. You basically can set up the 120 like an mSR. You can just do things a little easier with the DX8 or DX7s.

That was going to be my next question what is the next logical step up from the SR120? I was thinking about the SR as my first CP heli.

I have the SR & the CP. If you would get the Phoenix sim program, you will see a difference between the two even though a lot of the parts are the same. It's difficult to quantify what the "logical step up" would be. First, you are going from an FP to a CP which is kind of like going from softball to baseball--everything is faster. However, if you mean what would work similar to the 120 in control, the SR is easier to hover. The CP Pro V2 is made for tricks, which means it's built to perform. The SR was seemingly made to be that step up you are looking for. Saying that, from what I am reading and what I am seeing on the sim, I think that the better step up is the Trex 550. You may want to put that in the mix. It's a great performer, better than the 500 and not as big of batteries to buy as the 600.
