Well took the 120SR out. Pounded 4 Batteries through it and had a blast. Unfortunately on my last battery I had to do a huge bail out (killed power) while avoiding a tree and well snapped the landing gear (original stock one) still after 5months. Well heat shrink and CA glue and it is back together. LOL

Had a really great time with it.

That's what I'd been using with my helis before getting a DX6i not too long ago. To be honest I sometimes feel like just returning to it when I want to get up and running quick... it took me so long to get John Salt's msr settings programmed into the 6i that I haven't felt like going through it all again for my 120... so the last time I flew the 120 I just grabbed the ole DX4e... the sticks feel nice (compared to stock Tx), it's full range, it's simple (I just flip the dual rates toggle back and forth) and there's a hidden EXPO setting some owners don't seem to know about.

If you can get it (or the DX5e) for $30 or less while getting the cash together for the 6i I think it's worth it... and I'm pretty sure you can use it to buddy box (with friends or relatives) once you get your "final" Tx so it's still useful to keep it even.

EDIT

Hey North. Do you have any idea if there is a trick like that with the DX5e?

Yes it's in the Hyper Taxi manual... for both the 4e and 5e (different procedures). Go to "Find all attachments by North_of_49" in my profile and you'll see a PDF of the manual you can download. I'll go look up what page it's on right now.

EDIT
page 10, bro.

While North is doing that. The Lama V4 blades on the 120SR didn't work out so well. Pretty sure I splintered my main shaft going out of control and crashing.

Mike.

What are some upgrades that I can do to my heli that are functionally sound and not just for looks? I was thinking of putting on a boom support and new landing gear. Thoughts?

Hi, The boom support and trex 250 or Xtreme landing gear will make your bird stronger for sure, but is still somewhat for looks. If you land hard alot I think it would help, that being said, all upgrades can and will break in a bad crash. If you fly well and land well they will last for years, if not it will be alot cheeper to stay with stock parts.IMHO.WS

Getting out of the 120 sr thing selling it for want of a quad . Thanks for all the advice. It's in the classifieds if anybody is interested in a 120 with upgrades for a good price. If I ever return with another 120 this forum is on my great info list. Again, thanks for all the info and good advice!

Thanks North, your help is very much appreciated. Is the enclosed TX any better, and will it work with my 120SR ?

Yup, better than stock if it's full range (see my comment below).
HP6DSM

http://www.bindnfly.com/CompatibleProducts/ (scroll down)

... not familiar with the specs on that one so I don't know if it's full range, which would be the main (and probably only) reason to use it over the RTF Tx.

With the DX4e and 5e you'll have that hidden EXPO setting you can turn on though

The tx with the BLADESR logo on the front isn't really that good. It is tuned down for the bladeSR. The regular HP6DSM is a better tx..that is what I use for my 120sr.

Yeah,,,...what Jake said. I have since graduated to the DX6i and donated the HP6DSM which "Battledude" gave me.

micro2000...

Jake is refering to the picture you attached in post #13824, not the stuff in his quote from my post which is referencing the DX4e and 5e. But it answers some of what I said in post #13825

... interesting that there's 2 versions.

The weird thing about the HP6DSM is that the antenna flips away from you. Cool radio I have one for backup.

Specifically, I did the micro-flight LG w boom supports after my reglued, stock LG just fell apart. puts too much stress on tail motor mount if you crash (since the boom won't give) and causes them to break. It looked great, but contributed to the boom failure and now the bottom plate is coming apart. Looks nice.... and the extra weight back there smoothed out some of the quick tail movements, but all-in-all I think the $20 would have been better somewhere else...?

I have the LG for a 250, just waiting for the micro-flight to tank.

i think any mod that can help the battery tray would be worth it.

I like the look of some of the rakon heli mods....
