Whitty,
First, welcome to the madness! Second, It's Microsoft's FSX, "available at a store near you". 
And it is a lot of fun, even in stock form. However, some folks can't leave well enough alone(I'm guilty),
and we use programs like Airport Design Editor, to redo the stock airports to more closely resemble the real thing.
Other folks have done their favorites and posted them on sites like simviation and Avsim etc.
WJ's been working on Keystone airpark(42J), and i've been working on a local strip(TN08).
When I get mine the way I want it(as real looking as possible), i'll upload it to Simviation or some other site so other folks can use it.
