Okay fellas I found another forum that said if you
go to the Gamespy website and register, you won't have any problems logging into FSX!!
Sounded good, so off I went to www.gamespy.com

Well guess what? There is absolutely no place on their website to register!
Go figure!!!

I found it, set up a new account
Went to FSX , tried to log in, got a message that my username wasn't valid.
Still same problem if not the 16 character problem
I made a call to Microsoft .

here's what they told me.

Gamespy no longer has anyone running it and no support. Microsoft not only dropped all support for the new Microsoft Flight program and letting it die, but is dropping all support for FSX early and hopes it dies out despite it's wide popularity
They recommended if I wanted to stay in flight simming to purcase X-PLane which they hope will replace FSX

X-Plane did have a booth at Oshkosh and the guy did tell me that MS was going to drop all tech support for FSX in the near future

According to Microsoft there are no fixes for Gamespy and will no longer be any support or fixes for FSX in the near future
This is really sad!

I have XPlane on here nothing like FSX. I guess if you put alot of time in getting it setup just right ,and to me not user friendly.
Only time will tell. I don't think FSX will go away, just look at the folks that still fly FS9,and especially the old combat 2(that is the one I use and it is a multiplayer game)

Oh well off to work....

An IT friend of mine ran a complete check on my computer this morning and said there is nothing wrong with it.
The problem is with Gamespy

he opened up his notebook PC and tried creating a profile on gamespy.
He too ran into the 16 alphanumeric problem I did.
He tried setting up several different profiles, different passwords. Same problem with the 16 charactwer problem.
Then used another site, went to FSX and got the same problem I did, "invalid user name"

It's just not worth the hassle.
If you don't believe me WJ, try setting up a new profile and use a different
password.

So,
Just what is involved in setting up a server, for say, RCG members to meet & fly on?
I put the question out there for ya'll to ponder!
There would be a lot less activity I think....due to being used by a smaller group than just EVERYONE who buys FSX!
I'm thinking log into RCG & then fly?
Wonder if Jim Bourke & company would have any ideas?
Mike.

Mike download Xplane demo and give it a try and see how you like it.

If I can figure out how to get FSX to do the same as CFS2 on that server I'll let us know.
