MICRO Victor V-32 Sailboat Soling Sail Boat Christmas

I built this for Christmas. I thought you guys would enjoy seeing it.

I've told my kids many times that "the best Christmas ornaments are hand made." We have many from my Grandmother who really enjoyed crafting things herself.

I was wanting to make a model of a model and I chose the Victor V-32 sailboat as my project. I knew I could make the hull, and if I could figure a way to make the sails, it would be neat to do.

Here's the little build thread. Now, if we can just come up with a super micro R/C system to control it, we would have the world's smallest R/C sailboat!

Here the hull starts to take shape. I had to eyeball the cross sections based upon the full scale (?) V-32.

The part that I was concerned the most about was coming up with a material for the sails. I wasn't able to find any extremely lightweight "micro" sail cloth, so I used colored paper. Its easy to cut obviously, but the down side is that it might fade over time. We'll see.

I have a direct match with the original boat color by using the same Rustoleum "Painters Touch" orange. How's that for scale documentation!

Now it's time to start rigging the Micro V-32. I used fishing line. Its got some stretch to it, so I figured it wouldn't start to sag over the years like thread might do. And, because it was transparent, it looks thinner than thread. I tried thread, but it didn't look right at this scale.

These photos show the attachment of the sails. If I had the right size rub on lettering, I would have put my hull # on it. I've meant to go back and do that, but haven't gotten around to it yet.

I really had a lot of fun making this sailboat. A neat project that anyone could do with their favorite sailboat design.

Here's the final shots of the little sailboat. I want to make a miniature of my Midwest Boothbay Lobsterboat for my next micro project.

I've created a few R/C airplane micro models too. You can just use the plans from one of the magazines at the scale they are published at. It makes for a fun little project!

Really nice!! Great little project

Now you need a pic floating alongside the "big one"

It might need a little ballast at the bottom of the keel tho'.
