I really like it cause I've got "Gorilla Hands", and it makes it a LOT easier for me to work around the larger parts!

HelivsFMX?

What was the auw for your 40" "Big Ripper"? I weighed up my cut foam w/ cf installed, came to between 7-8 oz. If I don't go Gorilla Glue crazy, I think I can bring it in around 15-16oz. with a 1000 mah 3s battery. That's what I'm shooting for, anyway.

Hi everybody

I also have Lil Ripper
After destroying first version from 3/6 mm depron, laminating with fiberglass cloth, with monster dualsky motor (weight about 350g),
I finished light version (284g = 10oz).
My setup:
motor emax gt 2205/22 (23g) - more than 500g thrust
with 8x4 prop
ESC emax 12A
servos 4xhitec 55
orange (dsm2) receiver, weight about 2-3g
Rhino 750mAh 3s 20c

Today was the maiden flight

It flies super

Shaun, thank you for your plans and kits

Thank you Shaun,
It was rather fast work, two spray depron paints, but in the air it looks well

I got your plans and crunched them down to a 15" ws it flies great just a little heavy but it has a eflite 180 ,2 x 2.5gram servos,1 x parkzone s2000 linear servo, dsm2 compatable rx and a 9amp bl esc in it so the power is just fine but its not to floaty. A 17 or 18" ws should fix that problem though.

if anyone wants to make the plans smaller I say go for it cause it still flies great. if you do a 15"ws def go with ar6400 cause it should fly much better with the lighter weight

Just finnished my Lil' Ripper made from DTF. I did a KFM4 wing, doubled the fuselage sides where the wing goes through and covered with packaging tape. Thanks 3DMON

I did a small profile version that size of the Lil' Ripper using the mini Parkzone brick and it flew ok too. I was really hoping I could have done the full fuse with that setup but it would have been too heavy. The brushless setup seems like it would be a better way to go. Thanks for sharing your results.

Looking good Scot88! I'm curious how the kfm4 is gonna do on it too. Hope the maiden goes well.

Maiden went great, 1 click of trim on the elevator. I'm a tad tail heavy with the cg on the front of the servos, wants to dive a little inverted . My AUW is 13.8 oz , the tape cost me about 2 1\2 - 3oz. Not sure why it's tail heavy. It flies great, flies like it has less wing loading than my Piranha (also KFM4) and wayyyy quicker (@ 40% throws). It spins like a top @ 60% throws, first three flights were at 40% for most of the time. Flight times are around 10 min, motor almost warm, not at all hot.

motor - 1300 kv silver wonder/9050 GWS prop
esc - TP 18A (20 amp) why don't they call it a 20A?
battery - 800mah 3s
servos - hxt-900 (probably could have used the hxt-500)
radio-Turnigy 9x reprogramed w/ER9X, 6ch reciver

I built this as a 3d / airobatic trainer, I think it's going to be just what I was looking for. Thanks 3DMON.

Do I have the cg thing backwards? If it's diving inverted don't I have to move the weight back? KFMs like the cg back a little.

Congrats on the maiden. If the plane wants to dive when it is inverted it is nose heavy. Just move the battery back a little to help.

I think Im gonna rebuild another ripper. This time a slightly bigger than lil ripper (110%). I want it to work with my bell 1750KV motor so I think a 34" WS should be good. My last big ripper at 40" was a bit on the heavy size for the bell 1000kv motor I had so I need something a bit lighter.

Does anyone have experience comparing the KFM4 wing to the flat plate? I would like a KFM4 for windy conditions, but dont know if the added weight is worth the sacrificing... I think I'll just build it flat plate style again.

Also, has anyone tried the dollar tree foam board? I think I'll try that this time since its a bit more rigid than FFF and is a bit nicer looking.

Heli,
I'm using the DTF on my 40 in. currently in progress (I build SLOW!) Double laminated for wing, horiz. & vert. stab, some strategic doubling around the wing and rear section for strength.Looks like it's gonna work well. I did my original 31 in. Lil Ripper the same way.
