Additional weight will reduce responsiveness to throttle changes as more torque will be required to change the RPM, however when the speed isn't changing the prop will spin just as fast as a lighter prop with the same geometry. Any differences in current draw, torque, etc will be due to the shape of the blade not it's weight.

First off, Edge was right, I moved the packs up and that improved everything.

Hovers very easy and TRs easier to control and fixed the inverted harriers.

Love this plane!

So here are the numbers on my setup

Xoar standard prop 19x10
Scorpion 4035-380
Pentium Hobbywing 100A

Bench tests
Zippy Flightmax 6S 5000mah 20c
Amps 102 Watts 2150

TUrnigy 6S 5000mah 25c
Amps 102 Watts 2350

The hobbywing's specs are 100amps with 120 amp burst 10 seconds

FLight tests

70 degrees ambient air temperature
9.25 lbs AUW
7 minutes of 3d precision mix
Turnigy = 3850mah used
motor approx 130 degrees (using finger)

Batteries warm not hot, Zippy a little warmer than Turnigy

Guys, am I overcooking it?

I really like this setup, the plane 3Ds very well with a nice throttle range in the sweet spot and vertical is not ballistic but very good.

Castle reccommends that you don't pull any higher than 50%-70% of what the pack can do continuous in amps.
So your 20c 5000mah pack would be 50-70amps
25c 5000mah pack would be 62.5-87.5 amps
I think your pulling way too many amps at full throttle. Watt meter or download from controller?
My buddy will drop off his Scorpion 4035.380 ntomorrow for me to try.
I'm kinda thinking 8s is better all around for power and efficiency.
The 78'' 300 on 10s is very efficent I think. I get around 73-74 amps at full throttle, 2900 watts, and land with 30-40% in the packs after 7 good minutes. I could push it to eight minutes and see. The whole system is slightly warm. Using a 21x10 xoar also. If I do one of these planes I think the 8s would be better all around. I don't know, still thinking about it?

Funny you should ask! Video is encoding right now, should have it up in an hour or two.

Just a word of caution about my setup. I'm still experimenting and indeed it could be running too hot, we had a cutout on the 5th pack yesterday, not sure but think it was probably ESC overheating, so don't try my setup at home lol. at least not yet, I need to collect some more info, the ESC is buried deep under the cowl so I couldn't test for heat after the cutout.

Just to set the table for this video.

Daniel cut his left hand in a propeller accident on Thursday.

After 10 stitches and looked like he was going to be grounded, but that didn't stop him, he *won* the Pacific Coast Freestyle Championship yesterday in Molalla, Oregon. Congratulations Daniel!

I like to think that this warmup flight on the EF 70 helped just a little bit.... so this is early morning before the contest. Daniel with a Touch of Gray on a cold cloudy morning.

Thanks to Daniel for flying her and also to that guy Alex who later setup some mixes for me. !! rOCK.

Great flying Daniel! And Flop that looks like a great high power 6S setup. I hope you can get the bugs worked out of it! With that prop it almost sounds like a gasser on cans.

HOW MANY TIMES DID I TELL YOU THAT WASN'T TO BE POSTED? Oh fine... My first real flying after the accident had to be on video. Haha. Chris, I was out of my element during that flight, but could tell that it was a sweet plane right off the bat! The jealousy just gets worse. -just kidding.
Thank you again Flop for letting me fly it even in my condition. Sure had fun with ya' this weekend!

Well, I can't claim to have the skills of Daniel yet, but I'm trying my hardest. However, I did finish editing my footage from the weekend. Enjoy!
