Sorry but that measurement would have left me with a spinner gap over a 1/4 of an inch.

A 1/4" is not bad to be honest. You don't want it too close as certain spinners can recess towards the cowling. That's what I have on mine and no problems. As a matter of fact it's a rocket ship with an unlimited vertical with that super duper 4325 310kv Motrofly , 19x8 prop on 8s with over 2500 watts of raw torque. The tail takes a few seconds to catch the nose when I blast out of a hover. I ring this 70" EXP out in the air just to see if it breaks and I can't do it. Wide open snaps, crankshafts along with some nasty blenders and tumbles. All it does is grawl and ask for more!! I witnessed some other name brands at SEFF do these things and break in the air. I only saw one EF crash and that was pilot error from a head on collision during a demo. One plane would have survived had the elevator stayed functioning even though the LG was gone. EF is the SHIZNIT!!

1/4 inch is savvy with me but over may push the look good limit for some. The cowl is kinda ooen up front on that plane anyway isnt it?

They are very beefy and designed for gasser setups. They are pre-tapped for M5 bolts. I drilled them out to use a single M5 90mm as that is superior as it is less susceptible to vibration backing out the bolt as there is a lot more area to compress in the bolt. You could probably drill them out to 6mm, but that would be about it.

Personally, on the 72" Extra I used 8/32 threaded rod with the aztech aeromodel standoffs and nuts on each end.

I have a few of those motor box extensions from the 74" Edge and the Velox which would probably be the first thing I would look at if you are not comfortable with the standoff idea.

The evolutions ones are again beefy and I am not worried on my A60-6XS setup. I posed a picture a while back.

It is open so it is not as noticeable as one might think.

Many of my friends have ordered from McMaster and have all reported positively- most importantly they were able to find the standoffs they needed... however, I cannot comment on timing as I have never ordered from there myself.

Why don't you make them yourself from aluminum hex stock? Drill and tap the ends to 8/32 threads so you don't have the added weight of a long screw or bolt. It's basic hardware store material and not some "special aluminum" these people make. Why pay double or triple?

They are an excellent outfit. One of their warehouses is in Atlanta and we have ordered parts in the morning and received them the same afternoon. Spend some time on their website, they have hundreds of useful products for us modelers.

i just went thru the same thing and i couldn't agree more. they should have left the motor box long. anyway, this is what i ended up using and they work fine.

those using a separte reciever pack....what chemistry and size are you using? i bought an A123 1100 and i just don't think it's enough. the first pack i had did have a bad cell in it, but i'm only getting about 850mah out of the new pack from 3.6v/cell to 2v/cell. i just don't know, but i'm not confident i'll get two or three flights out of that. i'ver read that the 1100 A123 are notoriously overspec'd. thinking about going to a 2300

Consider trying the Hyperion 2100 mah LiFe pack. I have run these in a 78" Extra on gas and had great luck with them. It's only 12 grams heavier than the A123 for nearly double the capacity. You can get two and charge one while you fly the other one...but they charge in ~15 minutes anyway.

I'm running the 1900mah LiFe pack sold by Tower Hobbies and I usually charge it after 4 flights((OCD kicks in). I could probably get 6 flights easily as I never put over 50% back into the pack during a charge. Here's the link:http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...&I=LXZTJ6&P=ML
