That's interesting. I've had painted molds sit around for weeks (over 6) before doing the lay-up and not had a release issue. I never use just wax though. Is there anybody that sells Frekote in your area?

how many times did you polish the mold? did you use pva release agent? do you need the molding police to come and inspect your technique?

The local composite shop...
Don't want to sell it to me in less than 5l quantities
and the stripper/sealer and wax combo cost a fortune!

I don't really know what my issue is with pva, except that ...
never mind,
I should not knock it if I haven't tried it!
The mould should have settled down by now, and the previous castings were good.
I must say Sean's fuz also stuck a bit (paint also left for a week or so...)
I'll give it a couple more layers of wax!
and....
some more for good measure!

Well...
The mould cleaned up easily enough!
(not like that primer stick-up I had on the Wasabi)

I do think Adam, that the Frecote is the way to go!
Judging by what Skinnydoc and Alex have experienced...

The fuz is repairable, but she may pick up even more weight!
Time wise, it's probably more expedient to just cast another.
I also think I've been going to thin on the tail...
I'll deal with it all...
Tomorrow!

Snap crackle pop!
As the splitting edge comes apart...
(with more effort than usual... and some crackles)
No...
Pop...

Then you view the crack...
And realize something has to give because it is stuck on each side in various places....
and..
The fuz is contorting, bending...
Then the one side comes free with nasty ripping sound..
and,
You wonder, how the you are going to get the other side out without breaking it all in small bits and pieces..

OK, that was painful!
But, something like that!

All that pearing thru the window at the maternity ward and all...

Don't worry..
The incubation period on a new one will be quick!
I have a witch doc that doubles up as a therapist!
I'll do a referral!
He'll get over it!

true... true

Carbon Sally is/was 450g's on a smaller span than ZAlly so I know where you guys are coming from.

I had my Sally out last night, cruising around on what seemed like no wind what so ever, just the occasional 2-3mph gust in your face with the orange glow of the autumn sun setting behind me.... bliss.

it's wing cutting and bagging night. Wife is off to book club, kids will sleep at 19h30, that gives me about 4 hours to cut and bag some wings. I think i'll make 2 sets.

sending frekote...

can we/I send you a can of the stuff? Maybe these guys can ship overseas?

(BTW...I took a little breather on the RC stuff, but now I'm getting back into it. I just pulled out my little Sallyish plank on Sunday, and finally got it tuned a bit, it was popular with the veterans of NorCalSlopeSoarers. I'm going to layup another fuse tonight, this time a little different design. Pics to follow).

Hey Doc!
I thought you were so caught up with your Strega, you had forgotten the Sally!

Either that, or you got shipped out to Afghanistan!

Thanks for the kind offer, but I'll try again!
Perhaps I should approach the end user of the Frekote... or get hold of AMT direct...
Lets see!

So she flew....
And your thoughts?
What was your AUW?
Welcome back..
