ehehe

I got banned from building plane stuff in the house after wrecking two tables, a desk, the carpet in one room, a chair, CA'd her best scissors together and then CA'd the new set of her best scissors to the kitchen worktop (ruining both items) .... to name but a few things

Funny how all that gets forgotten when she needs me to look after our lad

Lets see what I manage to wreck tonight!

new whole wing bagged...

Just an update to my progress...
In a burst of activity (resulting in spousal wrath ), I bagged up an entire wing over the last 2d. I used 3/4oz veil 0-90 and 2oz glass bias, and a carbon 'spar' dart type strip out of 1.7oz (?1K)carbon in the area of maximal foil thickness. (I got the carbon at soller composites it was pretty cheap). Out of the bag today at lunch and weighed up at 187g, so better. Next time I'll drop the carbon all together. The tips came out much better as I didnt try to shape them.

I also fashioned a tail out of 3mm depron, I'll bag it up with some carbon tow per Dbox's recs. I shaped the tail based on position and size on the real alula, which is further foreward than the Sally plan.

next is the fuse... Not sure if I start with lost foam just to get something in the air, or go for the real mold.

Lots of fun!

Ben

Why're you guys putting winglets/tips on the planform? Seems like it would take away from performance.

for fun...

I guess we're just emulating the alula look, 'cus we (I) kind like it so much. Not sure if our planform is the right hybrid though.

Clearly in any case, the planform of the alula does not affect its performance. We'll see in my case. At this scale (tiny), I'm not sure if one could tell the diff.

All this talk of copying the Alula...I thought this was a Sally build log

FWIW Sally fell out of my head without any reference to the Alula, if you want a plane of these characteristics thats how they turn out...

Sally doesnt fly like an Alula, its more of a performance machine, saying its like the Alula is like saying that all cars are the same just because they're a similar shape

anyway... chip removed from shoulder

BREAKING NEWS FLASH ACTION EMERGENCY

I updated the plans last night! Including the real as built position of the fin!

But I forgot to upload them! boooo at me!

Form over function

Isnt that a female trait?

That's what I'm saying. Who's the designer of this thing anyway?

It's "Form follows Function"
That's why the female form.....
Never mind!
As regards this plane, I still have to find out the function..
But...
I'm enjoying the process.

So post the plans Steve, so that I can reshape the plug!
I still want to pursue the one piece fuz, as I want to experiment with different wing configurations on the same platform.

This is an ideal setup for me to work on perfecting the art of bagging, as it is a simple wing and small enough to write off!
I hope we're gonna get this before you're off to sloping heaven Steve...

ehehhe indeed...

I dont want to discurage as its all good, however, I am a little perplexed... I wouldnt go onto a Wasabi build thread and build a composite Le Fish for example.

Anyway... I'm not bothered.... but I'm not one for holding back my thoughts.

Hey J

I'll try to post the plans later, if I remember, I got an evening of sticking wing servos in a phoon so might not be near the pc, I'll make sure you get it before I go to sloping heaven.

I'll use your sketches to model the one peice fuz...cool?

I'd like to take her but with limited space in the car, her one track mind (she likes it big...oooeeerrr) and dubious weather forecast I think she'll have to stay at home this time. Planes going on this trip are likely to be only the Typhoon and my light glass Sally... all bases are covered then.

Dont fret tho! I'm returning in spetember on a dedicated flying trip and she will most definitely be going on that one... I'll do a video special of her carving up slope heaven (truely spectactular scenery) just for you

Hey Ben
Well done!
You're churning them out!
You have come a long way with your bagging!
My compressor has gone in for repairs...
Progress has slipped a bit this side, but I'll get back on stream soon!
