Can't connect the board to GUI

What am I missing here?
Connect FTDI. We hear a chime from windows.
Connect to Paris MultiWii board and it powers up (I metered the FTDI and it shows 5v)
LEDs flash on Paris board.
Open GUI and it shows 1.7pre (this is how the boards were shipped just before the 1.7 release.
Click COM4 and START lights green. Click READ and nothing happens? What am I missing?

Virgin Wii guy :) - questions?

Simple questions I hope...

I have 2 WMP+ clones, but the new style with ITG-3205. I don't want to go the direct to chip route just yet, but would like to play with MultiWii.

Does the latest version support the regular WMP+ interface to the units with the 3205? I know there was a scaling issue originally.

I think that's the only question... I'm one of the coder for AeroQuad, but just wanted to play with different solutions, so am wanting to build up a *vanilla* MultiWii and I have both the Warthox v2.0 and the Paris v3.0 boards to do it on...

Please let me know the above.

Here is how I modified the WMP code to work with the ITG3205. So far, it has worked extremely well. You will need to change the Signs according to your gyro orientation.

gyroADC[PITCH]  = -(((rawADC_WMP[4])<<5) | rawADC_WMP[1]>>3);
gyroADC[ROLL]   =  (((rawADC_WMP[5])<<5) | rawADC_WMP[2]>>3);
gyroADC[YAW]    =  (((rawADC_WMP[3])<<5) | rawADC_WMP[0]>>3);

Yes, in the uint8_t rawIMU(uint8_t withACC) segment of the code.

Yes, I have tested this code segment fully without auto-level enabled.

The fact that your board continues to flash after it has booted up concerns me. This generally means that something is wrong. Normally you should get the red light solid (power on) then the green light should flash during boot up then go off. It should only flash if you are moving the board and when you have it armed. I would check the board connections. Also, make sure that you are using the correct GUI for the loaded software sketch. I would simply start with the Arduino IDE and load the latest final sketch then go into the final GUI.

You can also test by loading the sample Blink arduino sketch to test if the FTDI is correctly working with your board.
