As a suggestion only if you would like to reduce the list...you could keep only the pilots single fastest time under 14s, as I see quite a few pilots with multiple times. You could still keep double ups for the historical times. E.g. I did 13.99 as well, but I don't feel the need to post it here as I have a faster time now. Just an idea.

I have the first 11.x flight on record at 11.98 as well as a 13.46 on 3-2-13 and 13.71 on 3-3-13.

Reto, you need to update the Shooter list.

Was it Reto that threw your Shooter for the speed record?

He must have been going to the gym

Nice flying Mike.

It was pretty spectacular to see the 12 second barrier broken. It was smooth, and tight. Not out of control at all, very controllable. Although the air was good, it was even better at other times during the contest. It made it very clear that the 10 second barrier is possible with our current models. Kudos for showing us it was possible Mike.

@Glauco:
Yes, I work out. I was launching Mike's tungsten Shooter just before the line would have broken due to pre-tenison.

@Klein: I pay you a beer and Gator bites if you break the 10s barrier next time...

I went easy on Reto and only put in 2.1Kg of ballast. It's possible to get more in there with all tungsten.

I made NO corrections for the entire run that I can recall. Just easy on the elevator and hitting a nice intersection of base A on a reasonably open pull onto the course. And each turn was very easy on the elevator, fairly open turns. Shooter can be turned much harder than what I did, but then the drag goes up in the turns. I heard the buzzers when the model was around 45 degrees into the turn so never any thoughts of missing the turn.

I wish I had the air on the course I had hooked over in the launch area. I never considered circling before entering the course.

The nice part was the thermal really smoothed out the air so there was no turbulence bouncing the model around like a lot of other runs.

I never expected to see a 11.xx run. But then no one expected Gavin's 12.72 run years ago. Now that was big lift.

1995 14.83 Denis Duchesne <Ellipse ( 1 or 2 ? )> Romania
1993 15.62 Nic Wright <Electra EV-1> Israel
1991 16.3 Joakim Stahl <?> Holland
1989 17.5 Rienhard Liese <Epsilon> France

It would be interesting to know the best times from even earlier WC's ?? The 'old' winch rules applied up to and including 1987.

Cheers,

Nic
Nic,
nice research!

I was past my refinement after work today and found Achmer News from WC 1987. I had in mind that myself and a guy from the US-team had the best speed time at this WC. Kind of team work, I won the speed task round 1 and Stephen the last round 6
1987 18.5 Joakim Stahl <Grover> Germany
1987 18.5 Stephen Work <Synergy II> Germany

Best Regards,
Joakim

Close my dear friend, but the glider for this era was actually Spojalo (1991 WC Holland). Missed to mention the model name in the answer to Nic Wright previously.
Spojalo was a dream to fly and I had a number of bomber speed runs over time. One blast was in Amay Belgium, it was judged to be wrong at the last turn on the B-base, got a new working time, yeeeak...
