first flight of video xmitter on Wingo a success!

Taking my queue from Charles aka jas_Qfix, I purchased an XCam2 from x10.com, stripped off the case and attached it to my Wingo.

Here is the result: http://www.geocities.com/flyingvids/

Note that from my PC it downloaded the whole video before starting. It's almost 3megs so it will take some time if you don't have fat pipes.

Ok I got it figured out. Apparently, linking to a geocities file from outside geocities is a violation of their terms

Here's a link to a geocities website, that has a link to the video:
http://www.geocities.com/flyingvids/

Nothing pretty on the site yet, but I'll get it updated soon.

The camera/transmitter was pretty cheap... all together I'm only throwing about $75 worth of electronics up with the plane.

The main investment was time to put it all together, but Charles did all the research

Nice job.

Check out ATV site for more informations on antenna designs to improve your range.

Have fun,
Charles

Hi Capt Dave,

I replaced the patch antenna with a groundplane antenna. As I understand it, the groundplane antenna's signal pattern (or "lobe") is a doughnut shape circling the upright antenna, but imagine the doughnut has been stretched upward at the outer edges so it looks like a bowl. The strongest signal, then, is put out at a 15 degree upward angle from horizontal. Now I put that antenna upside down on my plane and I get my strongest signal in a 15 degree angle DOWN from level, which is just about perfect for RC use.

**Charles, yup, I saw an ATV site (can't remember the address) that talked about antenna design, that's where I got the idea for the groundplane antenna.

Here are a couple of words and pictures of my setup, it's a work in progress so forgive the mess:

I am impressed. All I can say is to hide the Ant inside your fuselage to cut down some drag.

It must be fun,
Charles

I wasn't happy with the resolution of the CMOS camera that came with the transmitter... after it "saw" the sun once, it kept the whole picture way to dark. I replaced the CMOS camera with a black and white CCD camera. The result is #2 on my website:
http://www.geocities.com/flyingvids/

I have a Color CCD camera and microphone coming from www.supercircuits.com, that should give some pretty good video.

Yb2normal, I believe you are on to something soon to become quite popular amongst many modelers. And I also see commercial purposes too.

In my opinion, your first video had betterresolution the sound, of course, added a lot too. Nonetheless, I admired both video clips. Nice job!

Hi

On your 2.4Ghz ground plane antenna,I assume that your 4 ground plane dipoles were 30mm long. And did you use copper wire for it, and attach the shield to the small square plate. Can you tell us some details if possible.

Thks
