thanks Bernhardt. I used 3.6 for the first time this weekend and found that everything looked a very long way away. I guess there's aperture to consider too. I think I'll get a few and do some experiments.

cheers

Nick Bud,
Can you give me a link to the cam you used on your Xeno, the one you got from ebay.
Cheers, i was thinking of getting one as when i look at the vid i recorded of your flights compared to the skywalker flights, your's are much better.

Also, Liam, i think you mentioned theres somewhere on the forum someone has got the settings of how to set the osd cam so it works much better. Any chance of that linky link?

Also Paul,
Can you give us a lesson in the use of a ferrite ring......please
as you know i was getting failsafes left right and center on both the stealthwing and the skywalker. now it could have been local RF issues (but then why was nick not effected when he was chasing drifters) or my setup. (more likely). So what i was gonna do is bung in a load of ferrites and see what happens, trouble is i dont know how to (well i sort of do but i'd like to hear it from the ferrite ring king)
So, where do i put then, how do i install them, how do they work.

Many thanks
Owen

Stealth - firstly try to slip your finger inside your ring. If it goes in easily, then you will need a tighter one for better performance. If you enjoy it, then you might be better off in one of the other forums on the web...

Sander explain it all somewhere. And with nice pictures too.

In a nutshell, 5 or more winds around a coil should be enough
To help stop a device sending interference over power lines (e.g. cam causing poor radio range) put it as close to the device as possible on it's signal output.
To help stop a device receiving interference (e.g. video tx - lines accross the screen), put the coil as close to the inputs.

I'd range test first, but if can't be arsed, go for the cam first....

I'll ignore the first bit, dirty boy.

so, cam, vtx get a ring. ESC too?

and that goes for flying off the GoPro too. With my GoPro StealthWing (which i think you said you wanted one - right ) it's knocking out GPS sats too. and also got a failsafe close to the tower. almost had to do a walk of shame

Hmm interesting, i never considered it knocking out the GPS but on my last flight half way through my gps lost all connections. But then it was fine. I then extended my gps semsor back away further from 2.4ghz vtx and gorpo but ive not tried it yet

I know if you power the gopro rather than run off its own battery its rf noise reduces drastically

I'm powering the GoPro from it's own battery. A read stories of it doin what you said so chose to run off its own battery.
I'm running EzOSD and i'm reluctant to cut into the heat shrink and extend the gps out. I think i'll try a few toroids, if no good i'll try flying off a fpvnick 600tvl ebay cam

in the DOSD+ thread, Daniel recommends putting a ferrite just next to the GPS to counteract all the RF coming out of the cameras, and it works a treat. I get sat lock MUCH quicker and the lowest HDOP I've ever seen since I did this.

I also put them on the ESC wire and near the camera and on the camera+VTx power lines too. got rid of ESC noise on screen. My plane is a flying ferrite!

I extended mine with supplied gps extension on all the others. The longer cables much more practical, gets the sensor away from all the metal on board. Just a tiny slit in the heat shrink unplug and plug. Its still under warrenty too if that worries you ?

Hmm think ill give the ferrite close to the gps after i try again with sensor further away and report back. I like the idea of quicker locking although mines not too bad, but if it locks quicker on startup it means quicker lock if its lost again

Mind you on the flight i lost the link i broke many fpv records According to the google earth play back i went to italy for a minute. Thats fpv range record smashed, fpv speed record smashed and 2200 mah 3 s lipo endurance record smashed in one flight lol

Sounds like you need one on the cam - as close to the cam as you can get it. And another on the gps wires again, right next to the GPS.

Or replace the cam (assuming thats the prob!)....

if you can get them further apart - even better.

What cam are you using?
