Ran out of daylight to test fly it today - so hopefully it will be in the air tomorrow.

This is the fifth different project that the wing has been used on. I originally built it in the 1980's to carry one of my Canon SLR's and it has been used for all sorts of things since, although 4 out of the 5 have been different configurations for carrying a camera of some sort. The last time it was a twin - so I have left the pods on as hard points for the fpv cameras / video Tx. I intend to make alternative nose / canopy sections, depending on what payload or camera system I want to use. - It just plugs on for quick access to the batteries etc.
The tail booms unbolt and there is a centre hinge on the inverted Vee tail to allow it to be folded flat for transport.

If it flys as well as it has in previous incarnations, it will be much smoother and more precise than the Skywalker was and have a much bigger speed range. - Well that is the plan at least

Malc
Looking good Malc - good luck with the maiden tomorrow!

Yeah - lucky you can't see all the patches in the wing now it has shiny new covering

Trying to remember its history:-

1) Originally a conventional 'trainer' style aircraft, but with fuselage made from 1" polystyrene for vibration absorption and the camera mounted looking out sideways under the wing. No video downlink in those days, so the technique was to fly round the subject using the wing to point at it as an aiming guide, then fire off the shutter with a servo on the button and using a motor winder. Get the film developed and hope some shots were framed ok. Without the camera on board it was a very lightweight and agile machine (piped 45 on the front), so got used for a lot of fun type club competitions. Finally had a mid-air with a Wot 4, which resulted in an explosion of polystyrene snow, but the wing survived.
2) Got rebuilt as a pusher - similar in style to the Skywalker, but with a much wider fuselage and a tilt mount in the nose to house the SLR. Flew ok under power, but pretty sluggish with an OS 45 for power and glided like a brick. Got retired after a few rough field landings took their toll on the rear fuselage.
3) After 10 years in the loft while I was involved in pylon racing, got resurrected with a new fuselage, fairly conventional apart from stalky undercarriage and an underslung pan and tilt mount. Worked pretty well, but spent more time as my hack aerobatic machine without the camera mount on it than anything else. Broke it when pushing the limits too far on a low level outside square loop.
4) Got used as a test bed for my model vulture experiments. Initially as a glider to explore handling with no vertical fins, then converted to twin electric to explore yaw control by differential thrust, then to develop my bungee launch rail system.
5) Current design - single electric pusher, with twin booms and inverted V tail.

- Phew - yes that wing has certainly done some work

It's a shame you live so far away dodge. Having a build buddy always makes things better . Unless you are referring to the dynamic duo that is RCMonster and frank. RCMonster is franks building buddy in the sense that frank will buy an airframe, bring it to RCM, and tell him to build it. Lol

Haha great bit of history Malc!

Erugh, here's the Ugly-Quad mk2, and cheers for who commented about it tipping up...fine on take off, landing just knocks it over. Put some scrap bits of carbon underneath, trimmed the foam, scavenged the FPV gear off the M.Skywalker -canopy - Ready for plenty of footage tomorrow =]
