Ive being iching to fly my champ but the rain and really strong wind has prevented me so I just keep modding.

I also added a 3 bladed prop from my corsair.

Added a new prop to get more thrust I also colored in the spinner with sharpie.

got a propeller from funco on ebay. 3 colors, missed where I could have chosen gray. black, orange.

like to see if gray will be any issue, harder to see in flight? but maybe not in video onboard?

The last flight I had plane issues maybe the prop, being weak, will see, I will order a better 5043 prop if need be

Hey everyone! Love this thread! Im putting together Champ #2 switching over all the electronics to the new fuse. I am ordered the P51 motor and 400 battery. One thing I have been trying to figure out best way to:

Strengthen the whole plane, read about the glue coatings but is there a better way?

Also, I want an easier way to attach the wing to the fuse. Saw a post that had small magnets. Has anyone come up with a tried and true better method?

I was gonna use a rubber band method:

use two dowels front of wing back of wing and band.

I may just use larger rubberband, and overlap the whole fuse. or just leave it alone.

Oh, one more thing, what glue is best to put new motor in and the electronics?

It's silicone caulk, actually. I know some of this stuff can be acidic (foam eating)... I believe you'll want the "electronics safe" kind.

I wouldn't use hot glue... it has no give (flex) which you'll probably want (unless you intend to never crash )

I'm sure if you call HH they'll know exactly what the stock stuff is... I'd use it... it's the best way to maintain your stock CoG.

I used plane ole silicone for the bathroom.

I used hot glue and in a matter of a short time I just used whatever left over silicone I had around.

Just be careful of the vinegar base. Deep in the threads mentioned. You can place a little of gorilla white glue under the mounts and then overlay over the motor mount. Since this is on the motor they use such a small dab. and job is done

Did a couple more things to mine to take the abuse from gravel and grass landings. Also, to make the fuse easier to get on and off.

I may do that to the top fuselage so it does not pop off. placing a tab like the first pic, and then wrapping tape making a ribbon, and overlap to adhire to the tape only. on the nose. but I see the bat being in the way? Unless I place the ribbon first, then the bat.

I think the most valuable mod to me is the bigger wheels. Second most valuable: the landing gear reinforcement.

Oh, I forgot to mention that I also put the mustang motor in my champ, and I do put two pieces of tape at the front of the fuselage to hold it together.

Got some 99 cent store assorted rubber bands will figure out a solution later. If a slot for the rear and band the front fuse. No matter what I got some rubber bands. Just none for the super cub. But I get those from the postage mail lol. They fall apart

I'm not too sure if you really want that landing gear "too" stiff. When I first started flying the Champ, as far as the LG, it should have a little bounce to it to make the landing softer. BTW, I love the T-28 wheels/tires on the Champ.

Ever notice the small springs on the LG of some of the larger planes?
