Hey guys, Noob here

Hey guys, I have been reading from page 1. WOW! I am amazed at what can be done with the champ. Being a private pilot I never really got into R/C. Man, I cant believe what I have been missing. This is a blast!

I got mine mid December and decided to put a little keychain camera on it with some Velcro. I threw this together last night to show some friends of mine what can be done with just a little R/C plane and little imagination.

Hobbyzone J3 Piper Cub with Keychain Camera (2 min 32 sec)

I am so glad I found this site. I love to mod things.

So, I just had a couple of questions though......

I see where I can order the P51 motor setup from

Where can I order the 5030 prop from?
Also someone mentioned a user named RCBABBEL, how can I get in touch with him in reference to ordering some batteries?

Anyway, just wanted to say hey and hopefully I can contribute to this forum as you have contributed to my addiction, LOL!

New Fuse

OK, my first Champ is pretty beat up, but still flying.
I have a new fuse, wing, tail, etc to make a new one.
I have bigger wheels, doing the white glue mod, etc.
What are you doing about the dents in the fuse from the wheel faring?
Does the white glue protect enough? Yea, I know, I should not be landing that hard, but I am learning on my own.
My new fuse did not come with the little black bumper for the flat below the prop.
I am considering taking a piece of aluminum can cutting a 1/4" x 1/4 inch piece and gluing it on, that should protect it. Thoughts? I figure it cannot be too heavy.
Thanks!

I have two Champs, which see plenty of use. Neither has any noticeable damage from the farings.

Yet.

I've had lots of tree strikes and other unplanned departures from level flight.

But the damage has been concentrated on the nose, wing and empennage.

You must be doing some some pretty fancy flying and hot landings, Bob, to have major faring-related damage!

My Champ is beat to hell. I love it.

I learned a few things today:

1.) the 5043 is a sick prop, and in combination with the UM P-51 motor...even with a porker of a battery (15g), I can take off into the wind at 1/4 throttle.

*1a: I can fly the Champ now like a helicopter.
*1b: I can perform mind blowing Champrobatics, such as the ever-so-enchanting maneuver known as the "epileptic lemur roll".
*1c: "V" isn't just for "vendetta" anymore...it denotes the shape of the wings with the above mentioned combo into a mild head wind at WOT, loops, or the maneuver noted in section *1b.

2.) I can make my own damn prop adapters using plastic sprue from a different model kit, cutting out a cylindrical "plug", pressing it into the prop-shaft hole, drilling a small hole through the center of the plug with my pin-vice drill (if you don't have one, go get one), and 'force'-threading the prop shaft into it. 30 minutes of flying...no glue...nothing came loose.

3.) Habanero peppers are the same color as the Champ, and both bring about a warm, tingly feeling.

4.) The space between the pipe railings of my riding arena is 12 & 3/8 inches.

5.) I have yet to attain a state of bad-assness to be able to fly my Champ through the above mentioned space. <see section 4>
