Z800 & PCTx

Has anyone on here got any experience using the eMagin Z800 visor with PCTx from endurance RC as a combined headtracker / HMD for FPV flying?

Im still working out my FPV setup and would prefer to use the Z800 as i already have one. Im just curious to know if anyone has some thoughts on this plan as i dont see many people mention the Z800 as a possible display.

I have the Z800 but not using Pctx, but a trackr2. The main reason was me being to lazy to carry a notebook to the flying field. Also, two years ago when I was considering the Pctx the software that runs on the PC was sold by license for ~100$ (as far as I remember). So it was afaik 150$ for the HT and you would also need a notebook. I went then later with the TrackR2.

Go for it! The Z800 are the best goggles around for fpv. I've tried many like the Fathshark, Zeiss, EVG920, Headplay all crap compared to the Z800. Well, price wise obviously not.

HI there, I have an idea to get Z800, but, still not sure how to use it for FPV.
My questions are :
- 1. does it display video signal directly from video Rx or should use some kind of adapter or converter? And about quality after converting.
-2. How big controller and are you comfortable with it?
I used HeadPlay before it had broken and it was abs. terrible huge controller (or liberator) with very hard cord.
Thanks.

It only takes an 800x600 VGA input, so for FPV you will need a video scaling adapter like this one:

http://www.grandtec.com/products/video/videomate.html

and for the headtracking im planning on using the PCTx with ServoCommander seen here
http://www.endurance-rc.com/pctx.html

http://www.endurance-rc.com/servocommander.html

I downloaded the test app for the Z800 and it even reads the roll axis! .... full FPV controll of the plane could be fun

I'm using this VGA converter:

I power my groundstation with a 2S Lipo and also connect the VGA converter to it. It handles the extra volts without any problems. The cool thing about the converter is when wireless video signal is weak or breaks up it does not come up with a blue or black screen. Instead you see the breakups/noise. The video quality from the converter is the same as if you connect to the PC. Also, you can adjust settings with a remote control, if picture doesn't suit you.

The controller and the emagin box is just next to my video Rx, so no hassle with cables or so.

Sibi

I picked up one of these on my last CPC order. Havent been able to fully test it yet as im still waiting on my camera and video tx to arrive.
I did play with it for abit using a cheap cctv cam and a pc monitor and it seems to work well.
