Hi, had my f-18 a month or so and still haven't flown it. Looks too pretty. what throws are yall using? i can fly 3d planes, pusher jets, and have flown an edf f-35 decently , but i just have a hard time landing edf's cause once they get slow, they dont respond well

Mine is from BH with rudder. Nice plane. Definitely sluggish stock though. If you feel the need for speed I would mod it out.

For rates I was thinking something like this:

low rates:
ailerons-40%
elavator-60%
rudder/nose wheel-30%

high rates:
ailerons-75%
elavator-100%
rudder/nose wheel-90%

Since the F18 is longer then its wingspan its going to have a really high roll rate so thats why on low rates i will have the ailerons set so low at least for the maiden. Then on high rates is when i want to do some crazy stuff Landing is pretty hard for first time I agree with Stingeragent that they dont handle well slow. When ever i land i always try to focus on the approach that way you will have an easier time controling but i ussally come in to hot because i don't want it to stall.

does anyone know what kind of speed you can get out of this stock?

I have a lot of throw in my ailerons and I still find the roll rate rather pedestrian. As for stalling on approach it floats on dead stick rather nicely. I've always found landing the F-18 to be very low anxiety due to it's nice floating capability. Bring it in about 1/3 stick on approach and dead stick her in with a bit of nose high and it will literally plop to the ground with no problem.

Stock speed is somewhere in the 60's. You can get 70-75 if you are WOT with a good glide slope...

If you like 60-70 then it will be perfect stock. For me, I like my EDF jets to fly scale speed so I always aim for 100+. Either way, it's a fun plane to fly and always gets lots of attention!

With a running start on stock it can climb, oh, maybe 200-250 feet before deciding it wants back down.

I looked at our Memorial Day sales and I was like WOW. We had EDF's and Aircraft's at like up to 40% off. Glad you are able to jump on this FA18!

*Just a chime in and on a side note, although this FA18 from BH is made by Starmax, it did go through a few of my revisions. The one from Nitro/Exceed does not have Rudders. The Blitz model jetman purchased has twin rudders. We also improved the fan efficiency, motor and ESC combo for a bit more power. Changed the CG as well. Have fun with it! Fly it without the ordinance and she's pretty fast! Just one of those care free EDF jets that is like your ole' reliable. Toss it in the back seat and fly!

Many Happy Flights to you and thanks once again for your support!

Pete

Thanks pete, yeah i really like the rudders evan though you can still fly the jet fine but the rudders help so much on landings, and you can do more stunts with them. Thanks for the awesome deal

I definitely recommend getting the custom nose cone from AirSally. He makes the 70MM F/A-18 nose cone out of fiberglass. It's a perfect fit and MUCH more durable than the stock nose which will crinkle if you look at it funny. In fact, 9 times out of 10 it will come out of the box with a crinkle or two already. It's very thin.

$10 bucks I think...PM him and he will give you the info. Definitely a must-do mod, IMO.
