At last, I tried my BIG ICON took off from the water.

ICON A-5 Flight Test from the water 水上からの離陸試験 (10 min 26 sec)

This video is the first flight test from the water.

I found some problems, but in general this trial became successful.

Nice flying, and beautiful cherry blossom! here is my stock setup on water. The stock Icon still has some problem to take off from fast current water. In low speed, the Icon will nose tips down, and difficult to take off. In turning, the wing tips will go down into the water too. Taxing in the water is another problem, need to enlarge the water rudder too.
Therefore, I am going to put a small float on each wing tip, and possible to thicken the main float.

Your flight was about 3 years eariler than mine. Yes, I noticed your ICON needs to add side froat volume. Also this plane wants to add rudder beneath the water line. It may help keeping the nose direction against the cross wind. You and I have the same problem in low speed running. The nose want to dive in to the water. I suppose this tendency comes from hull shape that has gentle curve from nose to step. This must pull out its dive movement.
I have some ideas to reduce this inclination. I'll try them in near future.

I borrowed the idea what ssatoru told this forum.
I volumed up side floats by adding foam board, its thickness about 10 mm.

Had some trouble getting one of the large Icons here in Canada.... Seems like as soon as the Parkzone unit became availible, the DZ version was dropped by HK... So I ordered the small Icon and went looking for another supplier.

Turns out that Kondor Models and Great Hobbies both list this model for sale, even though neither of them stock it... Special order only. So I did, and now I wait once more for the slow boat from China.

Flew the small Icon (the PNP one from HK) twice now. Have it set up mostly stock, with 9g sevos on the flaps, and a 30A Turnigy ESC. Flew well, but could use a bit more punch...

Gonna try few different props before I replace the stock motor, which is actually reasonably decent.

Now that I am hooked I am really looking forward to the 1800mm version showing up....

Waiting is a big part of this hobby!

I think the Icon A5 is a very neat looking bird. Does anyone know of any scratch building plans and articles out there for the Icon A5?
