The Micro Stick flies VERY well. I had one with a brushed electric setup at 85 grams AUW and it was very easy. That huge wing gives it a wide speed envelope. I then built an another one for my Tee Dee .020. That ended up weighing pretty much the same as the electric one but with what seems like 3-4 times the power, it is somewhat of a pocket rocket. It's not really that hard to handle, it's very predictable. It's just that it needs to be constantly turning so that it doesn't disappear. It would be a better match for a .010. If only I had one...

Oh yeah, I fully intend to do up some Guillow's rubber kits. I made countless Guillow's back in the day and at one stupid point in my childhood, managed to mount a .049, somewhat balance & trim it, and let it free-fly (at mach3) into the side of a barn, ON FIRE. (bad idea folks, HAHAHA!)

I'm not crazy about the Comet Gull II. I built one from the kit- it's way, way heavy. The airplane probably needs more dihedral. I've flown it electric with a brushed setup- not much fun, as rubber power (even less fun) and I now fly it with one of those little Chinese outrunners. Its OK, but there are better airplanes out there.
I think the Guillows 16" airplanes are too small for the .010, while the larger ones might work. A Sterling P-6E might also fit the bill, but it's something of a nightmare- I have one with a Medusa in the snoot, and I've about called it quits- it's just too annoying. I've gotten a few flights with it, but it generally rolls into a ball on landing and it's coming apart now. John Fotiu had some small racers like an Estrellita intended for the Medusa that should work on an .010. He might still have some kits lying around. Cheers, Sam |

Why, too much power/speed? Roger, the guy that patented & sells the PET setup (throttle) for the mighty .010 claims with it, the engine become's well suited even for peanut/13" scale bipe's. Can't wait for my engine to arrive! Also ordered a DX6i & Spektrum's 2g (AR6300) receiver tonight. Next are some 2.5g Arrow servo's and a battery of some sort, then a kit or two!

Well, I've flown a 16" Guillows FW-190 on the DD IPS motor and it basically would roll into a ball on landing - at least much of the time. Wouldn't want to fly the airplane any heavier. Here's the problem- in the real world, engines flood. Hence, engine starting loads on an airframe are much higher than the relatively static loads imparted by an electric motor-meaning you need more beef for a glow engine than an electric. A lot of folks had the experience of mounting a glow engine in a Guillows airplane- and then watching it skitter away when the engine got flooded and they hit it a bit too hard.

A spring starter takes care of that problem, but they do need a bit of reinforcements or my fingers will start to poke nice holes in the covering...

Yeah, you just don't force it if the engine feels flooded/stuck, though I agree.. glow engines are pretty hard on a small balsa frame. Doable though, without balling up on touchdown.

How about that in a 12" span frog model:
