Cool
Dead - Now $99 - Ripmax P-51 Mustang and Spitfire ARF $60 at Tower Hobbies

Hey guys, just saw this in their flyer. Seems like a good deal since it comes with a brushless motor and 20 amp esc. Some people in US have been eyeing these UK birds as well, with no way of getting them because it would cost too much to import.
Here's the P-51 Mustang: http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXXSM4

and this is the Spitfire: http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXXSM3

Free shipping now as well for orders over $99 till memorial day, May 31st.

Yea, they look good for $60. Not a bad size either.

I wonder what motor they have in them?

Nice find! Anyone have anymore info on these? Never much worried about warbird ARF's but for this price maybe I will.

Are they the same type of foam as the Alphas?

Just as a FYI these are NOT the Built up models. <also has a 109> These are a new Foamie.

A fellow hobbiest had one of these (at least it looked exactly like this photo) at our park the other week. He said he got it from a LHS who had gotten it from China. I just so happened to have my Alfa P51 Marie there on the same day. It was a spitting replica of my alfa right down to the rivets and how they indented the CG. The only difference was the type of foam and it was a few oz heavier. The alfas are depron and this model had more forgiving foam. It wasnt EPO or EPP from what I could tell either. The paint job was also more glossier. He transports it in his bicycle cart and said it was very durable. The only thing he said he would have liked was a little more power for fun, but the power plant in there now was fine for scale and mild sport flying. He said he paid around $60 for it too and for the price he loves it.

Jokingly, when he sees mine, he now says "look its the fake Chinese model" :-)

Alfa's Mustang don't fly very well else I would have gotten an Alfa. I wonder how this one is. I've been eyeing them even at $100+ but haven't seen too much post on this brand as to how stable they are. However, at $60...I may need a Spit in my hangar. Now if TowerHobbies would send me another $20 off to be a return customer to bring this to $40...I'll be all over this.

Thats right it has taken me 3 weeks to finally get mine from ballooning straight up into the air whenever I apply more than 50% throttle. There are whole threads of this behavior which is just particular to the alfa mustangs.

Now if only the Spitfire was retract-ready like the Alfa version.

Cool looking models for a great price (especially considering the motor and ESC are already included, too) but even though the Alfas are pricey, I have to admit I'd be a little disappointed if Ripmax actually turned out to be using them to make clones. I like companies that stand on their own two feet, and Alfa has a great lineup offering and has done that very well. That said, though, these Ripmax models have a larger wingspan than the Alfas, and the Spitfire has quite a few obvious differences. Looks closer to the Flying Styro spitfire to me than the Alfa one.

I also just remembered I have an outstanding TowerHobbies store credit for not getting the full use out of my membership a couple of years ago ... so many now is a good time to actually cash in on it. Now if only I had a coupon to entice me to come back, too! Going to have to go hunting for Tower codes ...

Cutty01, Did that guy's Ripmax P-51 have the same ballooning problem?

If I get a P-51, it'll be the Parkzone one as it looks to have been very well designed. I'm interested in the Spit though. Would love info on how it flies if anyone knows... I am concerned about the guns protruding and ripping off on belly landings.
