Good Thunder Elevator Art

Hi all,

I had a good weekend of weather so I went searching for targets, here are some shots of an elevator with some neat art work. The town is Good Thunder MN.

Enjoy!

You should put one of those in the photo contest, I think we would have a winner! Very cool shots.

So where were you getting up and down from for those images? Just curious.

I have a few places around town here where I would like to fly out of but because of the tight landing spots I don't have the balls to attempt them. I am scared stiff of dumping the plane or not getting it down in the small areas. I know the Heptad is pretty amazing but I just don't have the confidence in my skills to land it in really tight spots yet. I have been practicing small area landings a few times though.

Here's one spot. If you go to street view you see a little riverside park that has room to get up quick and down if I come in just over the water. I really don't want to dump it in the river. There are lots of neat places in our town a block or two from there. Just too scared to attempt it.

I planned to land right down the main drag with a spotter but there were just too many wires as well as traffic. I ended up on the lone highway outside of town. You could barely see the plane when I was pulling the trigger, I was at my limit for my eyesight. I had my helper along to guide me with the downlink. It was rather strange as I thought for sure I was well past the elevator but I was just getting close for good shots. It was neat as I learned just how far I can fly out and still hit my targets.

LOL...It's just the crystal clear Minnesota air

Just my trusty DSLR rig... Solution with a Nikon D40X on board. I have been very pleased with this setup.

I love the saturation on those shots.... I've been wanting to get a nikon for some time now. Does the D40X have have the ADR (Active D-Lighting) like the D300?

I use very little processing, mostly because I am still in the learning curve with Gimp. I use the program to crop mostly. I did sharpen a few points, and I use the brightness and contrast at times. These images were pretty much good to go. I do have my D40X saturation boosted a bit.

No ADR on the D40X, the D60 has it but so does the D5000. A lot more camera I just picked up the D5000 but have yet to fly it.

Nice Mike! Especially when I heard you shot from a distance. That's really tough to pull off, which you did well.
