Headplay wont boot. battery Voltage and pinout?

It looks to me like:

1. Vbatt (nearest edge of circuit board)
2. Vbatt
3. Not Connected
4. Ground
5. Ground

The circuit board had a + symbol by pin 1-2 and - symbol by 4-5.

Battery and ground connections ohm out to be in parallel, but maybe this is where I went wrong.
Well I was fairly certain this was correct so I hooked up a 12v lipo to pin 1 and 5. The power light stayed on momentarily then powered off.

Now the unit does not stay on, the goggles show the boot screen momentarily then power off.

After looking further I did find an IC that is getting hot after trying to boot a few times. It's a fancy 5V and 3.3V regulator IC (#6232caz).

Internal battery has 7.4V not 12V and you should connect 12V lipo to external
connector, where charger with 12V output usually been connected.
Hope it is not too late.

I did exactly that and now my Liberator does not light up as well.

Looks like we have another project to work on

Turns out the power supply is fairly complex. This may be very difficult to troublshoot without a schematic. I've been tracing out the power supply and found a IC that controls the battery charging, another that outputs a 5.5V and 3.3V supply. Three Mosfet ICs that appear to be used for switching.

It seems something further down the line is giving some feedback to tell the power supply to shut down. My fear is it could be one of the big ICs is damaged causing excess current draw. If this is the case I think were out of luck.

In the meantime I may get some $100 goggles off ebay, and will probably be happier, even if I fix the Deadplay goggles.

Have you tried 12 volts going into the chargeing plug?

I can't remember but think center pin is positive? better make sure of that.

Its an odd ball plug with a thinner center connection, so make sure that is touching to make contact.

I tried the power supply that came with the unit, but the same problem exists. It appears the problem is further down stream.

Yes, the center pin is positive. I rigged my unit (through the 'DC in' port) with a 3S lipo - it works fine and regular battery changes are easy.

I found a couple what appear to be PTC reseting type fuses, but they are not damaged. I've traced the battery and power supply quite a ways into the unit so I know power is getting to most of the circuitry. It seems to be more a case of what is cuasing the unit to power back off?

I wonder if Headplay support would give us any clues. I'm guessing they would rather get us to buy another Liberator.

Unfortunatly I don't think they sell liberators. Only new sets of goggles.

I've tried a few times when I had a problem with the optics but since I bought my goggles used from someone else they refused to help me. I ended up opening the goggles and fixing the optics myself.

UPDATE: I asked someone else to look at my liberator and they found that I did have a burned fuse after all. It powers up again.

Can you find out which fuse it was in case I missed one? I think the fuses all have a reference number like f1, f2....

I'll try to take pictures later. I think I'll install a fuse and a a AnyVolt voltage regulator between the lipo and the Liberator before I use it again.
