HD Video: 200mph DS Acro with Wizard at Weldon
I've posted this elsewhere but it's a bit buried in the Lake Isabella and Colorado FR threads.
Response has been good, so figured it deserved a better showing here. Enjoy. Let me know what you think.
Click on title to go watch at YouTube in whatever level of HD your computer can handle. Video was recorded with a GoPro Hero HD in 1080p Audio was recorded with a Zoom H2 recorder with its 4 mics encoding to 2 channel surround sound. On top of the H2 recorder was a "dead cat" windscreen which blocks virtually all the wind that normally swirls around the back of the hill. It'll handle 5-10mph. [edit] Adding Nick's DS Acro vid. Filmed in SD with my Canon SX-10 often at a mid-high level of zoom so you can see a lot of plane details. Still recorded sound with Zoom H2 + dead cat. Nick does acro about 2X as fast as I do, so it'll waste less of your time. ![]()
YouTube has a hard time with the high motion so here's a better (much higher bitrate) XviD encoded version http://www.thud.us/videos/rc/socal-d...k-wiz-acro.avi (right click - save as) More individual raw vids + good sound at http://thud.us/videos/rc/socal-ds-2010 ian |

If you want to see more clips of various people going fast at Weldon this last week
with the same good sound, I'm slowly rendering and uploading vids to my website right now. http://thud.us/videos/rc/socal-ds-2010/ They're raw 720p HD hand held videos + high quality audio. Files without a description, may be in the process of uploading, so start at the bottom. Download the files to watch (right click - save as) and you'll need either DiVX or XviD codecs, or easier, the VLC Media Player which will play just about anything. ian |

DSing is like NASCAR. It's almost never boring going in circles when you're actually there.
I cut it down from 20 minutes and ever cut was painful. It wasn't going to get one second shorter than 10 minutes. I generally don't make videos for those with short attention spans. ![]() ian |

Actually Ian is on record here previously for recommending a pretty hard nosed approach to editing, getting out as much extraneous stuff as possible till you've whittled down your presentation to the best and brightest.
That said, it's really hard to cut anything when the day, the flying, the whole experience was awesome to the pilot/filmer/editor... I think we can all be sympathetic to that
