Yeah pretty dramatic, that was it's second flight. Setup was Hyperion HS-3026-1600kv motor with a 6 x 10 Carbon Folder setup (DUP's special) on 5S. 3 + 2 2250mAh 65S Nano-Tech lipo's. YEP 100 ESC. This setup didn't seem that fast while I was flying, but now seeing the vid it does look pretty quick. There are a few pics on post #867 on page 58 of this thread.

Nah, not dumb thumbs, I was still getting used to the plane, it really hauled out of that last turn, heading towards me I lost it visually for a split second, tried to correct it but not in time. In hindsight I should have buttoned off But hey st happens, I'm over it, looking forward to building another one.

Hey Sebbe, I am guessing around 130 - 140A, I have an Eagletree logger but I was more excited to fly the plane than solder the new connections to it

If I was to do it again (which I probably will at a later date) I would use the 1400kv motor on 6S and maybe a pitchier prop. I couldn't fit 6S with the 2250mAh lipo's I had, 5S just fitted.

130-140 amps, are you sure.I Think I read jacko tried the same prop and measured static amps to like 55-60 with a 1400kv motor and 5s lipo, dont think another 200kv should raise the amps from 55-60 to 130-140....

Im asking as I am trying to get a hint of what kv to use with that prop and 5s lipos..

Remember mine are on a 32mm RFM spinner sebbe, so its a 5.5" prop will make a solid diffence.

jacko, i know, still the 80-90 amps more seems to much....even twice the amps like 110 would be almost to much to I think...

32mm spinner compared to 38?, thats only 6mm more diameter, and 172kv/volt more,,,, all we know is that your numbers are correct, the other numbers from QDRevenger is just a guess... still think he is in the 100 amps region... no more..

Hi Sebbe,

Is yours motor actually a Scorpion 3026 -1400kV or or a 3226-1400kV ?? The 3226 series motors seem to be about 40grams heavier than the 3026 series, as well as being a bit bigger all around.

I can't seem to find mention of a 3026-1400 anywhere !!!! Ok.....just found it. Thy have discontinued it

Are your numbers static or in the air ??

Have you measured the speed in flight, as the pitch speed seems pretty good for only 1100W input.

Strangely enough, I seem to be getting very high percentage of the pitch speed with my 4.75x4.75 setup. Maybe somebody else has some thoughts on this ?? Obviously it varies with types of model, but I would be interested to know for F5D type models.

Thanks,
Jag

Motor is a 3026-1400, its a pity they discontinued them the 3226 are big lumps in comparison.

They are still available though

http://www.aircraft-world.com/shopexd.asp?id=3795 ( or in blue )

Numbers are static, pitch speed isnt accurate, pitch of prop reduces when run on smaller diameter centre peice ( ie its physically only a 5.5" diameter)

I just went through and worked out the theoretical pitch, to reduce the comfusion

DUP 6x10 on RFM 32mm spinner is a 5.5x9.16 prop.

25531rpm = 222mph pitch speed.

What percentage of pitchspeed are you seeing? Is this using inflight rpm or static?

Hi Jacko,

Thanks for the links. I had not realised that the Hyperion HS series is a rebranded Scorpion !!

My inflight average RPM (according to Castle ) was 42,280 on the APC 4.74x4.75C once up to speed. This is on the flight where I was regualrly radared at 300km/h with a peak of 308km/h. I had thought I was flying the pylon course but I now know I was going long on pylon #1 so was flying bigger, and thus getting a longer straight to accelerate in.

According to my trusty HP this leads to 85.02m/s or 306km/h

So, I now have absolutely no idea what is going on with this

All suggestions gratefully recieved.
