Probably due to the thin case walls of the 9 man, its easy to make em misbehave with even a lil loading.

Whats the AUW of the Uber-Wasp/Swift/Reverb?

Thanks Adrian, should be fine, keyed the join area on the mount up well then sandblasted it. The M3 screws are just extra insurance. I also put a couple of extra 3oz cloth from the front up to the wing mount.

Yeah will be running the trusty YEP100, tough little suckers.

Jacko, not sure yet, need to find some scales. Will weigh it up before it flys. It doesn't seem overly heavy, more than my first one for sure, but not as heavy as my Rifle feels for the size

Thanks Arctery, it's just an experiment before I do something a bit more serious.

Hi all,
I have been reading this thread and finally got all the way through, over the Christmas period, not easy. Kids and work didn’t help. I have only had EDFs as speed birds before so I’m having to guess at some of this. If you think either setup would work or benefit from any changes, please chip in. I’m loving the style and look of this plane along with the different flying style pylon/hotliners have.

I have hopefully taken it all in and come up with a couple of setups.

First Setup, cheap ish:
Mini Hawk £148
Het 2w-25 £49
YEP 100A (2~6S) SBEC Brushless Speed Controller (Any good?) £30
Turnigy nano-tech 2650mah 4S 25~50C Lipo Pack £17
2 x DS09-AMD £48
1 x HS 65 Mg (I have two lying around) Free
Total £292
What speed prop do you think would work with this? I was thinking a 4.75x4.75?

Second Setup, not cheap ish:
Mini Hawk £148
Mega 16/25/2 £82
CC Ice 100 Lite £61
Turnigy nano-tech 2650mah 4S 25~50C Lipo Pack £17
3 x MKS DS6125 Servo - 10mm 29g 8.2Kg.cm + 2A SBEC £147
Total £455
Again what prop do you think? I guess at a 5x5?

That’s a £163 difference. That’s a whole new airframe of difference plus extras.

What do you think? Have I got any of this right or am I pissing in the wind?
Cheers, Tom

Hi, and Merry X-mas from another dad and worker You've got most of it right. The HET will do the trick but the mega is better. IMO: get the 16/25/2 Mega with the "C" option (5mm shaft) and the "E" (longer rotor) and you will not be sorry.... It can be used and abused beyonf belief. 100A/4S and swinging a 7x5 at those numbers close to 27500rpm is what it can do when good cooling is present.
For servos, you don't have to invest as much as the MKSs you mention will set you back. Dymond D60 all around is a very good servo setup.

The YEP I think will be ok with a direct drive setup, but the brake avtion is too weak for a GB/folder setup. The CC has a better brake, but really only needed if you go GB/folder. I burned a CC100Lite in my miniHawk when I tried to gain brake function over the HiModel ICE100 that was it there before (identical to the YEP, I believe....)

Sarboy,

your HET 2w-25 setup should be fine, I have the identical setup except I use an HK 80A esc and gensace 4s2200 and same prop.

HET 2W25 is a chinese copy of a 16/25/2

Its a copy of the OLD motor though, pre new magnets that dropped the 25/2s kV (Years ago)

HET are good motors, because they copied GREAT motors. I wont recommend them though as stealing other peoples ideas sucks.

Sarboy,

F5D option(only for 2 turns) added to 16/25/2 drops its resistance by 8%-10% +5Euro

C stands for Combat (5mm output shaft), also 4mm. +3 Euro
Both will have 5mm shaft and 5mm bearings inside.

E rotor drops the KV by another 5% but have same winding. +5 Euro?

Full boat: 16/25/2 CE F5D (Fantastic motor)
All F5D have option of getting 16/45 front and rear shields with extra large air passages and same 16X19 bolt pattern. +3.5 mm total length increase.

Stock bearings , or 100,000 RPM bearings +12 Euro , or Boca Ceramic Hybrid ABEC 7 Orange seal bearings +26 Euro compared to stock.

----------

Similar KV 16/30 , only 5mm longer but 20% bigger internally.
20 grams heavier.

Full boat: 16/30/1.5 SEC

That 16/30 sounds attractive as a 5s option. Would it swing a 6x6?.

Hi Jay,

Rimripper ran his 16/30/1.5SCE with severe over AMP in cold Canadian air mounted in his FJ.

Primarily on 4S, but he also did some 5S tests.

If you want to push the motor that hard in this airframe with less airflow to motor, no heat sink......well it comes down to throttle duration....hotliner style???

I assume that may be going too far.
I suggest checking the AMP range with rimripper, then asking the guys here about what they think for your intended throttle duration.

---------

For 5S, i suggest 16/30/2 CE F5D and matching the prop pending motor temp.

I would be looking for around 3:30 minutes for racing plus landing pattern. I might need to run a few prop and cell combinations to get the optimum.

It a real balancing act. Making sure you have enough prop to launch confidently, not stall dropping your left wing and then getting a competitive race pace.

It's only a 400 meter 3 pole course, so it's has to be light and nimble too.

Nobody is going to say anything about those batteries??

I think they´re both too big and too low C rating, only rated for 980W.....

Glad you pointed that out, the battery caught my eye as the weak link as well. With all that other high performance stuff a 45c min lipo is needed.

Cheers for the help.

Think I'll go with the Het as the mega is just that bit more expensive without the massive benefit for me right now. Maybe as an upgrade or if I get an other high performance ship.

As for servos I'm still not sure. The MKS will always be good for another ship but they are twice the price!

Recon I'll go for the YPE as it will do 95% as well as the CC.

As for battery? I don't know if the 4s 2650mah 25c will fit but at burst it will deliver 1855w and 927w standard. The size is 145x45x22 and I don't know if that will fit.

Maybe go for the 4s 2200mah 35c, 109x35x33, should deliver 1078w and 2156w burst but reduced flight time?

Will either of the suggested batts fit with the Het?

Sarboy, i have run the Het 2W-25 on an APC 4.75x4.75 prop for a couple years now and it's been a solid performer with speeds in excess of 140 mph straight and level. I use Gensace 4s 2200 30-40c which fit nicely and a Hobbywing 60 amp ESC which has given me no problems.

Ps. Where are you stationed? I was at Wattisham for 12 years, happy days!
