Hi all,

A) What do you think would be the minimum size prop to reach 200 MPH in level flight without a dive or wind?
5.5"X 5.5" or smaller? Maybe over pitch instead of 1:1

For example: Stryker F27C needs 7.4" diameter, Funjet 7" diameter


B) How many Watts in the size prop you are suggesting?
(is the approximation for static or unloaded at end of pass)



5S-2200 battery (or equivalent) can provide some serious amount of power.

Heya Gryphon, I think a 6-7" square/slightly over sqaure prop would give ya best bang for buck in the wasp, 36mm spinner on the nose. The airframe isnt a slug, but isnt as slippery as an F5D ship, you'd start to hit a serious thrust problem with S400 sized props.

5S2200 in 1 pack wont really fit, 5S as a 2S and 3S will though. I run 6S 1600mah with room to spare.

I think youd be looking at ~2.5kW to hit a genuine 200mph with no BS involved.

Wont normal sized 5s 2200mah lipos fit ?

ok, Dimensions for that pack was: 136x24x44mm
that dont tell me much, as normal 2200m ah 5s are more square sized, like 35x42mm..

So I guess it wont fit..

How about normal 4s 2200mah ?

With a 480 size motor direct drive, yes. Any 4S22000. With a geared motor like the 2221, it depends. I use 4S1800.

I think we should enlist Voodoo to answer these questions. He'll test 5 setups and have it all figured out in about a week .

I've tried a standard square shaped 5s 2200. It wouldn't fit. For a single pack the biggest you can go is one of the flatter, wider packs like a standard 4s 2700. So for 200 mph I don't think it will be possible without a two pack setup.

Gryphon if we assume my numbers are right then 1.3 kW static is good for about 175 mph with this airframe. Can that info be used to calculate how much power will be needed for 200 mph?

Cube (200/175) = 1.493 so extra 50% more power (Watts)....but likely a bigger prop than minimum size needed for 175 MPH.

Battery capability comparison: (assuming same C rating and manufacturer)

5S-2200 : 5X2200= 11,000
6S-1600 : 6X1600= 9,600

11,000 / 9600 = 1.146 so nearly 15% more capability at same strain on cells.

Ofcourse cell count has to match KV and application, but if motor is not on hand and suitable motor and prop are available,....then it is worth trying to series 3S-2200 and 2S-2200

Cube root of that extra battery capability gives 4.6% more speed at same cell strain.

So a bit of dirty math here, but might help all out efforts for this frame's top speed runs.

I don't know the ideal size prop needed for 200 MPH.
Pending KV and prop needed, I wonder about 16/X/X Q or EQ .
3.2mm , 4mm , 5mm shafts.

Q option will place the inrunner out in front of plane due to mounting holes on both end of motor.

Im running a hotliner setup, with a 25/2 KPG 5.2 gearbox Gryphon, ~2.3kW with the 14x14.5+5 prop. Its no where near 200mph (but wasnt supposed to be either haha)

I think you could 6S 1800, 2x 3S packs there easily enough with a big enough motor in the nose.

The 16/25/2 +KPG25 (115g+60g) is easy to balance with the 2 3S 1600, so a 16/45 shouldnt be a problem. a Mega 22 would likely fit in the nose too.. Maybe a 22/(20 or maybe 30)/2E on 6S... that should be able to put enough power into a decent prop to hit a real 200mph. I think the 22s would be the way to go, shorter motor and better torque. Motor length becomes a minor issue with the wasp as one pack goes through the canopy, and one goes in under the wing seat.
