.4" trimmed off each blade, with this centre peice it makes for a 14x21 prop.

Suprisingly easy to do, I was expecting a bit of a furry CF mess to clean up, but they trim really nicely. Tips lopped off with a dremel with cut off disc, fine file used to get the shape, and then some 400 grit wet and dry to finish. Set of vernier's and a Mk1 eyeball to make each blade identical.

Balanced spot on first time too

Just busted the pinion off the shaft during testing, Doh.


2nd time ive done it on this gearbox, im guessing the bore of this pinion was "reamed" by the motor the first time it did it. Time for a new pinion...


The stink thing is pulling the motor off the box means doing it at work, so itll be a few weeks before she flies..


I got one solid bit of data off it before it broke, 4S resulted in ~950W from 62A (and a cool noise, felt like it'd go pretty well even on 4S!), which put the load of the prop in the ballpark of where I thought it'd be, which is good.

No sorry, I know you can buy replacement planet gears. Maybe email kontronic, ive emailed them before and they were very helpful.

I have a few spare new KPG boxes, so one will get robbed of its pinion

Today i have tried new ESC and prop with my 6S combo... The Himodel ICE150 is working fine with cut 14.5x14 RFM prop.

It is quick but not ultra quick, the airframe looks solid and can take the speed and tight turns.

How did you find the brake on the ICE 150?

I ask as I find the brake on both my 150 and 100 very weak and can't figure out if its the controller or I'm just programming in incorrectly!

My brake is also weak... If i stop the motor on the way up prop closes without problem. But when i level the plane on top of the climb with the motor on, it sometimes don't stop the prop. My brake is on hard...

I just got rough with my kpg25, put a couple of screws in it, then used a screw driver as a pribar against the shaft, lots of brute force, and presto, two bent M3 screws, and one KPG box loosened.. Have to remember that trick for later

Is your nose stock/unreinforced? (The wasps nose that is..).

I bought crashed Wasp some time ago, so fuse and the tail is all repaired not pretty but plenty strong, maybe to strong - heavy. Power output with warm lipos is around 2.3kW/120A, i didn't measure RPM but i will in the near future. I will make a video when it gets warmer, now it is around freezing outside.

It looks my wasp was from first batch, anyway everything in fuselage is packed there is absolutely no room left. With 30g of lead in the nose, my CG is 52mm from LE of the wing.

Damn that is cramped! The Mk1 does look small.

Hows the thrust line feel? I didnt glue the motor mount into mine (fuse is second hand un flown) and its a little on the turps. Might have to shim the gearbox to get it sitting better...

In the original configuration there was about +1.5° incidence between wing and the stab. When i installed new tail i adjusted it to about +0.5° and if i remember correctly the motor is a degree down. It climbs just a little under power.

If you have room to spare than go for 7S, i would go but there is NO room left.

Hi Jacko,

As you know I'm not that familiar with this application.

But I was wondering if you said the above line playfully?

If both motors have same resistance (0.0075) and size, they should have same max power.
And if you have lower KV and more gear ratio, you will be spinning larger prop ... Probably more efficient prop.

Comes down to keeping the motors cool so they don't smoke with control of airflow and throttle duration.

Assuming same battery, ESC and airframe drag.

I might be missing some detail(s).
