Got the nose shaped today, made up from soft block balsa.

Started making the 2 fan hatches, just taped over each end of where the hatch will be then start planking. When dry it should lift out while still retaining its shape ready for glasing, well thats the theory anyway!!
When thats done its a case of sanding down and then glassing the whole thing.

you might want to mix a little bit of epoxy and thin it out with some alcohol, then brush a light coat over that panel, before you remove it. this will allow it to keep its shape better and can be sanded a bit to let you glass it later. just a thought.

Started glassing the wing tonight, never used this before so was a bit nervous to start but then got right into it. Hopefully get it finished together with all control surfaces in the next few days. Fuselage still needs alot more sanding yet

looks good to me Phil. if there are any dry spots after the glass is hardened, simply slit the cloth with a hobby knife, wick in some CA glue and press the glass down.........DONE!!!!!.

you are no longer a glass virgin. congrats. it looks very good.

Thanks Rich, starting to like this method. Iv'e noticed a couple of small spots which look like air bubbles, presumably i'll just slit them like you said and stick down. Got the underside done tonight.

Lookin' good there Phil. Great work on the fiberglass.

A FG finish has this big mystique about it but once you do it, it's a piece of cake. And the results will make you stand out at the field.

Yep, definately got the 'fibreglass bug', as far as results are concerned, one can only asspire to the levels that you have acheived with yours. It must take alot of patience, something i unfortunately don't seem to have.

Nah, I wouldn't call it patience. More like, "I took 2-3 months to build it, why rush the finish."
One tip I can give you, coming from an auto body background, get it out of your head that it's only going to take one series of primer/putty/sanding to make it slick. And work with fairly coarse sandpaper (#180-ish) until your ready for the final sanding (#400) before paint.
